Clarine’s POV
Chapter 23
The people Tyler brought with him instantly swarmed the entire banquet hall.
The whole place was in uproar and the atmosphere took a sharp turn for the worse.
“Isn’t that Mr. Jacobson? He used to be Miss Robinson’s ex–husband, right?”
“What’s going on? Is the ex–husband crashing the wedding to steal the bride? They’re already divorced, why would he do that?”
“Don’t worry, if someone’s going too far, my Hans isn’t easy to deal with! This is definitely going to be interesting!”
The moment I saw Tyler, my heart skipped a beat. I thought I was dreaming.
Shouldn’t he be with Clara right now? Why was he here?
He looked disheveled, his eyes bloodshot and his face drawn.
It seemed he’d traveled a long way without any rest.
He walked toward me, step by step, his face filled with anxiety. “Clarine, please, don’t marry him.”
My mind flashed through everything he had done to me in the past three years and I just felt that Tyler in front of me was ridiculous.
“Tyler, don’t you love Clara the most? What? Where is she?”
Tyler’s face was etched with painful guilt, his voice hoarse. “I’ve looked into everything. Clarine, I misunderstood you in the past. I’m sorry.”
How could a casual “I’m sorry” erase all the pain I’d suffered?
How could I ever forgive him for such an insignificant apology?
Seeing my silence, Tyler continued, “Before I came, I already knew everything. To get your forgiveness, I’ve already punished those who wronged you.”
His voice was impossibly hoarse. The look in his eyes hinted at a touch of madness.
As soon as he finished speaking, Tyler’s assistant handed him a tablet.
He immediately opened it and held it in front of me. “I’ve already married Clara off to my grand–uncle. This is a video he just sent me this morning. He seems to be having quite a good time with her.”
A few of Clara’s screams came from the video.
She was hanging in a dim room, surrounded by various tools I didn’t recognize.
She wore a revealing black lace dress and leather straps were tied around her body.
His uncle took a long whip and whipped Clara again and again, making her scream in agony.
“I can guarantee her life from now on will be worse than death.”
Then, Tyler tapped his finger and started playing the following video.
This time, the focus was on Clara’s birth mother. She was dragged by my father and the Jacobsons to kneel before my mother’s grave, forced to bow and apologize.

The long–buried truth was finally revealed to the world, but my mother was no longer alive to hear the confessions of the guilty.
As for me? All I could think was how absurdly laughable this whole spectacle was.
I suddenly burst out laughing. “So? Tyler, you’re not going to say you suddenly realized I’m the one you truly love, are you?”
“You loved Clara before and it’s only been a few days, look at what she’s become. I can’t handle
that kind of ‘love‘.”
“No, Clarine, I was wrong. I’m willing to spend my life making it up to you.”
Tyler’s posture was humble, his voice full of pleading. “As long as you can forgive me, I’ll dc anything you ask.”
I was about to speak, but Hans stepped in front of me. “Enough, Tyler, please show some respect.”
“We’ve known each other since we were kids. I don’t want to make a scene. If you leave now, I’l overlook everything that’s happened today.”
Tyler looked at Hans, his eyes full of malice. “Oh, right. I almost forgot. I need to deal with you first.”
