I stood by the window on the villa’s top floor, peering through a gap in the curtains, watching every move outside.
I saw Tyler standing at the door, almost about to attack Hans.
Later, Hans took me in.
I didn’t want him to be hurt because of me, so I turned to go downstairs, but then I heard Tyler calling Clara’s name again.
I immediately stopped and returned to the window, quietly observing the commotion outside.
I guessed Tyler might show up here, but I didn’t expect his presence to be because of Clara.
Still, it was the most reasonable thing when I thought about it.
His heart was always only for Clara: No matter how many tricks Clara played on me or how many lies she told him, he would still firmly stand by her side and unconditionally believe her.
For me, Tyler only had disgust and boundless hatred.
This was an outcome I had known all along, yet a dull ache still flared in my heart for some reason and I couldn’t help but shed tears.
Suddenly, someone offered me a tissue, gently and carefully wiping away the tears on my face.
“Don’t cry. He’s not worth it.”
I turned my head to see Hans standing beside me. I hadn’t noticed when he got there.
I hastily wiped away my tears. “I’m not sad because of him.”
Hans chuckled softly. “Clarine, I didn’t just meet you yesterday. You don’t need to lie to me.”
Tyler was still standing at the villa entrance, seemingly waiting for me.
“Are you really not going to see him?”
I shook my head. “We have no relationship anymore. There’s nothing for me to say to him. Unless … ”
Hans looked at me curiously. “Unless what?”
“Unless it’s in court. With his love, he’ll definitely accompany my sister to court and face judgment together, don’t you think?”
“Who’s your lawyer in New York? I can assign you the Schneiders‘ lawyers. They’re famous attorneys in California and they’ll definitely help you win the lawsuit and ensure Clara faces legal consequences.”
I said firmly, “No need. This time, I want to rely on myself.”
Clara owed me more than just this one incident.
Later, by chance, I found out that my father had already been cheating.
Clara’s mother had her eyes on everything the Robinsons owned and had long wanted my father to divorce my mother,
But my father kept saying that he only cheated physically and that my mother was still the one

he loved the most, so he was unwilling to divorce.
Clara’s mother felt she couldn’t sit by and do nothing, so she simply approached my mother.
She continuously harassed my mother for a month using various methods.
My mother was utterly worn down by the constant harassment, her health deteriorating day by day until she eventually fell seriously ill and passed away at a young age.
I was determined to reclaim what Clara and her mother owe me, little by little.
“Oh, right,” I turned and looked steadily at Hans, glancing at his legs. “Shouldn’t you explain what’s going on here?”
‘I never intended to hide it from you. The reason I came to Los Angeles from New York back then was due to some internal conflicts within the Schneiders. Someone hired assassins to kill me and seize my position as heir. I was indeed severely injured as rumored and was once paralyzed.”
Hans turned his face away as he spoke, embarrassed. “I was impotent, but I’ve since recovered. The news hasn’t been announced yet because the internal traitors haven’t been completely eliminated and I can’t easily expose myself.”
Hans met my serious gaze and gently embraced me.
‘Don’t worry, I can handle it. I won’t let you be in any danger.”
