Chapter 167
Juno’s POV
rushed to the bathroom, barely making it before emptying the contents of last night’s dinner into the toilet. Morning sickness was hitting me hard today, and the bitter taste of bile led my mouth as I heaved again.
Warm hands gently swept my hair back from my face, and I felt Augustin’s comforting presence behind me as he knelt down. His fingers traced gentle patterns on my back, offering silent comfort while I continued retching.
“I’ve got you, Berry,” he murmured softly. “Just breathe through t.”
Neither of us was particularly concerned about this daily ritual. We understood exactly what caused it, and in a strange way, the discomfort brought a certain joy, each morning a reminder of the new life growing inside me.
When the nausea finally subsided, Augustin pressed a tender kiss to my temple. I quickly wiped my mouth and offered him a weak smile.
“Better now?” he asked, his eyes filled with concern.
“Much better,” I nodded.
“Sorry about that,” I said.
“Don’t apologize.” He helped me to my feet and guided me to the sink. “Our little one is just making their presence
known.”
We both sank down to sit on the cool bathroom floor, my back against his chest as his arms wrapped around me. His hand, drifted to my stomach, spreading his fingers wide across my abdomen.
“I can’t wait to meet our child,” he whispered against my ear, his voice filled with wonder.
I laughed softly, placing my hand over his. “There’s nothing to feel yet, you know. It’s still so early.”
“I know,” he chuckled. “But they’re in there. Our little miracle.”
We sat in comfortable silence for a few moments before finally getting up to start our day. As we headed downstairs, my mind drifted to the journals waiting for us. I was eager to dive into them, hoping they might reveal the truth behind
recent events.
While I wanted answers about Helena’s death, I found myself curious about her life as well. From everything I’d heard, she seemed like a strange woman–obsessed with Nathanael despite his treatment of her, betraying her friend Amelia repeatedly, and possibly blackmailing people. What kind of person had she really been?
When we entered the dining room, Freya greeted me with a bright “Good morning!” Her smile was particularly radiant today, and I didn’t need to guess why. The satisfied glow on her face told me Adryx had thoroughly pleased her last night.
Morning, Freya, Adryx,” I replied with a knowing smile.
Adryx nodded in acknowledgment, a small smile playing on his lips as he rubbed Freya’s back affectionately.

I couldn’t help reflecting on few strange our fates had been—coming to Clifflands as war prizes, only to find love and happiness here. Our husbands had been friends in Forestvale, and now our new partners were friends in Clifflands. The pattern of our lives remained woven together, maintaining the same order despite everything changing around us.
“Where have Bryloch and Scarlett disappeared to?” Augustin asked Adryx, breaking into my thoughts.
“They’ll be joining us shortly,” Adryx replied with a slight smirk

“I thought I’d let the ladies decide,” Augustin replied, lifting my hand to his lips. “I want Juno to choose what she’d like to see me in. Perhaps something that will make her appreciate my. form.”
Heat crept up my neck at his suggestive tone. “Classic navy jerseys with white riding pants would be striking, I suggested, trying to maintain my composure while imagining how the outfit would highlight his powerful physique.
“Then that’s what we’ll wear,” he agreed, his eyes darkening as they held mine. A shiver ran down my spine at the intensity of his gaze.
“I can’t wait for the pre–match ball,” Freya said excitedly. “Everyone will be there!”
I gave her a pointed look. “Freya, you know Forestvale and most Fireland people are never invited to the all–region matches.”
Her smile faded as she remembered. I understood her enthusiasm, though. She wanted to show off in front of Quinn, and I couldn’t blame her. Adryx, as a powerful Alpha and the third in command of the world’s most powerful region’s political system, was a position Quinn could only dream of.
It would be good for Freya and Scarlett to have their moment of triumph in front of their ex–husbands. Maybe it was petty, but their upgrades would cause Quinn and Maddox pain and disbelief, and after what those men had put them through, they deserved that small satisfaction.
The dining room door opened, and Scarlett and Bryloch finally joined us. One look at them and it was obvious they’d just been intimate. Bryloch’s buttons weren’t completely done up, suggesting they’d been in a hurry. Scarlett looked like she’d hastily finger–combed her hair before tumbling out of bed, with no time to brush it properly.
“Shall we eat?” Augustin suggested, and we all began filling our plates.
My appetite was ravenous, and Augustin kept adding food to my plate whenever it started to look empty. “You’re eating for two now,” he reminded me quietly, his eyes warm with affection
After breakfast, I was the first to leave the table, eager to examine Helena’s journals. There were six in total, and flipping through the pages, I discovered that Helena only recorded significant events. Not daily entries like most ple who keep journals.

“Read them aloud, Juno, Bryloch requested as everyone gathered in the living room. “We’re all anxious for answers.”

We settled comfortably around the room, and I selected what appeared to be the oldest journal to begin with.
