Chapter 161
Anger surged through me. “That lying bitch!” I snarled, slamming the letter down on the desk.
What is it?” Adryx asked, stepping closet.
“Helena told Chris I was hunting him when I didn’t even know e existed! She’s been sending him money and warning him to stay away from me.”
“Why would she do that?” Freya asked.
“To keep him away from Clifflands? To protect him? I don’t know. But she’s been lying to everyone.”
I shaking my head. “Something’s not right. Chris has a mate and family, and he’s been constantly relocating. Either he’s running from something, or…”
“Or he’s planning something,” Bryloch finished.
“Finding Chris, and Helena’s child, now more crucial than ever, said. A baby doesn’t just disappear. Something is very wrong with this picture.
“We’ve searched everywhere,” Scarlett reported. “There’s nothing else about Helena’s child.”
“Did you check under the floorboards? Behind the walls?” I asked, desperate for more information.
“We looked everywhere reasonable,” Freya said firmly. “If there was anything else to find, we would have found it.*
I nodded, gathering all the materials that might provide clues–files, the diary, the photo album. “We’ll take these with us. We’re staying at the Levenston duplex in Goldenvale. I’ve arranged for food and three rooms for us.”
“Hot water and real beds?” Scarlett asked hopefully. “Count me in.”
“And actual food that isn’t from a gas station?” Freya added. “This investigation is looking up.”
Everyone except me seemed pleased with this arrangement. I had hoped to find answers here, but now I was leaving with more questions than when I arrived.
As we were packing up, five Deltas entered the office. They immediately bowed their heads when they saw me, fear evident in their postures.
“Alpha King,” one said nervously. “We apologize for not being at our posts.”
“Where were you?” I demanded.
“We went to get food, Alpha King. We didn’t expect anyone to come here.”
“All five of you? At once?” I growled. “What if someone had broken in?”
“We’re sorry, Alpha King. It won’t happen again.”
I shook my head in disappointment. “All five of you left at once? That’s not how guard duty works. One or two of you
should have remained at your posts.”

Chapter 161
“Yes, Alpha King. It won’t happen again.”
They handed me the keys to the office and the hallway door. I locked both securely to prevent further intrusions. Then we left the house, each getting into our vehicles to head toward the Levenston duplex in Goldenvale–the place my mother had lived before moving back to the manor.
In the car, Juno placed her hand on my thigh. “Try to stay calm, Augustin.”
“With you beside me, I can manage,” I replied, covering her hand with mine. “But there are so many unanswered
questions.”
‘Helena’s diary might answer some of them,” Juno suggested. Just keep an open mind and control your temper. We’ll figure this out together.”
‘She seems like a pretty terrible person,” Juno added bluntly.
I laughed at her directness. “That’s one way to put it. Though I’m starting to wonder if there’s more to her story than we
know.”
“There usually is,” Juno replied. “People are rarely just good or bad. Even terrible people have their reasons.
“I love you, I told her, squeezing her hand. “Your perspective helps keep me balanced.”
Instead of saying it back, she grinned mischievously. “Prove it to me tonight.”
“Oh? And how would you like me to do that, Berry?” I asked, my voice dropping lower.
‘I’m sure you’ll think of something creative,” she teased. “You always do.”
I laughed again. Only Juno could respond to “I love you” like that without making it weird. She was adorable that way.
I accelerated the car, suddenly impatient to get to the duplex. I couldn’t wait to strip off Juno’s clothes, taste her, and bury myself inside her.
