“It’s nothing. Ms. Vance. Just caught a bit of a cold last night, so I’m hundling up today. Joan said.
Shaton reached over and pulled the scar away. “Trying to hide this from me? Who choked you?” Her voice was ice cold, her gaze sharp as strate

At that moment, Marvin sneezed in the main hall, hit by a sense of foreboding.
Joan looked uncomfortable. “Please don’t ask, Ms. Vance. I’m fine, really.”
“Tell me!” Sharon demanded.
Finally, Joan lowered her head and answered, “It was Mr. Marvin Vance, but it only happened because I made a mistake.”
“Marvin? Why him?” Sharon’s expression flashed with surprise before quickly returning to normal. “What did you do?”
“Last night when I was heading back to my room, I ran into them talking in the hallway. I accidentally overheard them and got caught, Joan explained.
“Overheard them?”
“They were discussing you, trying to figure out how to stop you from going to the House of Obsidian. I couldn’t help wanting to listen, and then they spotted me.”
Sharon rubbed her temples. ‘So that’s what happened,‘ she thought. “What did they decide?” she asked with a sigh.
Joan hesitated before answering, “They didn’t come up with any specific plan.”
Sharon was surprised her brothers were being so stubborn about this. Usually, they let her do whatever she wanted. ‘Why were they trying to stop me from going to the House of Obsidian this time?‘ she thought.
After a moment, Sharon said, “Go get some medicine for that bruise. It’s not good for a young woman to have marks like that.”
“You’re not mad at me, Ms. Vance?”
“Why would I be mad? You were trying to help me. Just in a not–so–smart way.”
Joan’s eyes immediately welled up with tears. “I didn’t tell them anything.”
“I know that. I trust you,” Sharon said, patting Joan’s shoulder. She left the bedroom, but her expression darkened as soon as she was alone.
Sharon knew she had to go to the House of Obsidian, no matter what.
Sharon walked into the hallway and immediately noticed her brothers‘ grim expressions. A wooden box sat on the table, suggesting something serious had happened.
“What’s going on? What’s that?” Sharon asked, gesturing toward the box.
“It’s the Flame Summons from the Four Great Families,” Richard explained.
“Sounds important. What’s it for?” Sharon leaned in closer, curious.
“When there’s a major conflict between the Four Families, everyone gathers at the Judgement Hall to resolve it together. Once a decision is made, it

can’t be changed. Otherwise, you’ll face united opposition from the other families?
A cold gimt flashed in Sharon’s eyes, though her voice remained casual. “Then let’s go check it out.”
Mrs. Vance really won’t learn until she’s in deep trouble. And she’s just handed us the perfect opportunity! Sharon thought.
“We’re definitely going,” Richard said, his expression cool. “Otherwise, Mrs. Vance might actually think she can manipulate us with this thing
“But Shari, you don’t need to come with us.” Wallace turned to Sharon with a hint of amusement in his eyes. “You should stay home and rest. If you want to go out, take someone with you.”
“I want to go with you guys,” Sharon insisted, her eyes widening.
Wallace didn’t respond at first. A moment later, Sharon tugged at Wallace’s sleeve. “Come on, Wally,” she pleaded.
Wallace rubbed his temples with a sigh. “Fine, you can come if you insist, but we need to set some ground rules.”
“No problem,” Sharon agreed quickly. “I just want to spend time with you all. Once I go to the academy, I might not be able to come home very often.” Oriston Academy was a boarding school. Both House of Ivory and House of Obsidian followed the same system. All students lived on campus.
When this uncomfortable topic came up, Wallace quickly changed the subject. “Let’s eat first, then we can go.”
Sharon didn’t press the issue. She had secretly tried contacting Cameron, but he wasn’t responding to her messages. He seemed to have dropped off the grid completely.
There were no new posts on the Hunter Forum either, and Sharon couldn’t reach anyone. ‘Are they giving me the silent treatment? This is the worst time to leave me hanging,’ she thought.
