chapter 82
In the grand hallway of the Vance Mansion, Sharon’s brothers remained gathered, their expressions unusually serious.
Marvin looked up with a sigh. “Richie, what are we going to do about this? Shari seems dead set on going to the House of Obsidian
Richard didn’t answer right away. Instead, he turned to Wallace, “Wally, what do you think?”
Among the eight brothers, Wallace had always been their go–to strategist.
“This is a tough one,” Wallace said. “I’m sure you’ve all noticed that Shari isn’t as vulnerable as we thought. She might even have another identity we don’t know about. That rebellious streak in her just can’t be contained.”
They weren’t stupid. They had definitely picked up on the changes in Sharon.
“No matter what, she’s still our sister,” Marcus reminded them, his voice firm.
Wallace nodded. “I know, which is why we’ve all been pretending
‘But how do we stop her? We can’t control her! We worked so hard to get impossible to change Shari’s destiny?‘ they thought.

But the House of Obsidian? She absolutely cannot go there.”
from this path, and now we’re back at square one. Is it really
The hallway fell silent. Eight capable men sat lost in thought. After all their years of effort, it seemed like they still couldn’t come up with a way to stop
this.
Richard finally spoke up, his voice resolute, “Whatever it takes, we cannot let Shari go to the House of Obsidian.”
If Sharon stepped foot in that place, the wheels of fate would start turning again. No one knew what would happen in the end.
Marvin covered his face with his hands. “What are we going to do? How can we say no to our sister? I just don’t have the heart.”
The other seven brothers felt exactly the same way. ‘This is such a headache,‘ they thought.
Patrick suddenly spoke up, “What if we get that Baxter kid to talk some sense into Shari?”
Richard looked over at him. “What do you mean?”
“Isn’t Nicholas connected to the House of Obsidian? He must know how dangerous it is. He’d be perfect to convince Shari not to go,” Patrick explained.
“What if he refuses?” Marvin asked.
Patrick scoffed, “He wouldn’t dare. That kid wants to marry Shari. Does he really want to get on our bad side?
Of course Nicholas wouldn’t. Richard nodded. “It’s worth a try. We don’t have many other options.”
At this point, they were desperate enough to try anything.
As their discussion wrapped up, Marvin suddenly looked up toward the second floor. “Who’s there? Show yourself!”
The rest of the men turned to look with murder in their eyes.
After a moment, Joan walked out, looking uncomfortable. “I was just passing by, I swear. I didn’t hear anything.”
Joan felt so wronged. She had no idea the brothers would be discussing something that important here. ‘Ms. Vance looks terrifying when she’s angry,‘ she thought.
Richard frowned, “How much did you hear?”

Under the enormous pressure, Joan admitted, “Pretty much everything. But don’t worry, I won’t tell Ms. Vance anything.”
In the next moment, Marvin grabbed Joan by the throat, his eyes deep and unreadable. “In this world, only the dead can keep secrete
Richard’s face remained expressionless. “I’ll take care of your family.”
With just those two statements, Joan’s fate was sealed.
Joan stopped struggling. She understood what destiny had in store for her.
“Wait a second,” Wallace suddenly spoke up. “I want to ask her something.”
“Wally, don’t tell me you’re going soft. Having someone like her around Shari is dangerous,” Marvin said. completely unlike his usual playboy persona.
His
expression was now gloomy and cold,
Wallace waved his hand dismissively and looked straight at Joan. “I have one question for you. If your answer satisfies me, I’ll spare your life.”
“I won’t–I won’t betray Ms. Vance,” Joan coughed violently. She could feel her life slipping away, but she refused to betray Sharon.
“I’m not asking you to betray her. I want to know what secrets Shari is hiding,” Wallace said.
Joan looked ready to face death. “I won’t tell you.”
“If you don’t talk, you’ll die.”
“Death isn’t the worst thing that can happen.”
Marvin sneered, “Then I’ll grant your wish.”
Joan closed her eyes in despair. ‘I’ll never see Ms. Vance again. What a shame,‘ she thought. ‘Maybe in the next life.’
Suddenly, Marvin released his grip. Joan collapsed to the floor, gasping for air, her eyes filled with surprise. ‘I’m not dead?‘ she thought.
Marvin wiped his fingers. “Since you’re so loyal, I’ll spare your life.”
After a moment, Joan collected herself. “Maybe you guys should try trusting Ms. Vance. She’s not some fragile flower hiding behind you during storms.”
‘Ms. Vance is more like an eagle soaring through the sky, wings spread wide,’ Joan thought.
Richard fell into thought. There was truth in those words. But the House of Obsidian was Shari’s destined enemy. She couldn’t go there.
