“Rosella!” My voice was full of hope as I entered the council office.
The councilmen, the people from the Supreme Court, and even my own father were here with her. They were already seated at the long table, just waiting for me.
My wife didn’t even bother to smile at me. She just nodded and then fixed her eyes straight ahead. Because she slightly frowned, I saw who was beside her. My jaw tightened Instantly and my vision darkened at the sight.
“Why is he here?! Why did you allow an unimportant person to sit here while we discuss my marriage?” I spat, but I kept my tone low.
“Luna Rosella-
“Just Rosella,” she corrected Desmond, who spoke first.
He nodded without emotion and faced me. “Rosella wants him here together with her secretary.”
“But did I allow it?” I asked sharply.
My father sneered at me. He was about to reprimand me but my wife suddenly spoke.
“Sit, Darius. Don’t drag this out. I don’t have all the time for this,” she said coldly, like stone.
I swallowed hard. That little hope I had that maybe, just maybe, she was doubting the divorce, vanished.
Desmond signaled me to take a seat. They all opened their laptops while Rosella’s attorney was there laying out the papers. I looked at my attorney who whispered to me,
“You still won’t sign?”
I shook my head and stared only at my wife. When her attorney started, it was like I heard nothing.
“But my
client still won’t sign the divorce. He wants to make amends,” said the woman beside me.
“My client won’t make amends. We don’t need your signature anymore. We’re just here to inform you that we are pushing through with the adultery case.”
I stiffened when I heard that. I loosened my tie abruptly so I could breathe properly. I felt suffocated while receiving all those daggers looks. She stared at me with cold eyes, her lips pursed before she sighed.
“I already talked to his mistress,” she then looked at each councilman’s eyes, lastly my father. “The child is enough proof of adultery, of course. I have no plans to expose everything about what he did but… Darius gave me no choice.”
“This will ruin the family name, Rose,” my father said, giving me a sharp glare.
“Then force your son to sign the divorce and separation papers and we’re done here.”
I stood and slammed my hand on the table. The corners of my eyes burned with anger. I pointed at the man beside her.
“That man can be considered your lover tool” I hissed.
My wife was so strong she gave me a smirk of triumph. “Even If we had a medical exam, no one would find any evidence that I cheated while still married, Darius. And don’t worry.” Her attorney nodded, eyes locked with mine, and gave me a grin. “I won’t do the same thing that ruined me. Rest assured that I didn’t have any relationship with a man while the divorce is ongoing. Now, either you sign or we’ll see each other in court.”
“Fine! Let’s see each other in court!” I shouted. “I’d pay every penny to win this case! That man will never have you!”
I saw her expression harden, even the man beside her.
“Foolish!” this time my father intervened. He pointed at me.
“I want the councilmen to rule now. You are not prolonging this issue! Get the stamp!”
My eyes widened. I faced Desmond to stop him from obeying, but he was already coming back carrying the stamp.
“You’re not using that,” I warned.
“Yes, we are,” Dad said. “If the alpha isn’t in his right mind to make decisions good for the pack, then the councilmen have the right to step in.”
The world seemed to slow down for me as I watched them make the decision, all the councilmen signing papers, legally confirming their stance. I looked at Rosella.
She bowed her head, and the man was whispering to her. What was that? Was he telling her they’re winning? That they could finally divorce regardless of my consent?
Slowly, I approached her. My hand flew to my wife’s shoulder; she jumped in fear.
“What the hell!” she smacked my hand.
But I didn’t want to create tension. Slowly, I lowered my hand and knelt down. I saw her lips part in shock; the whole hall went silent.
“P–please, d–don’t do this, wife. I would do everything to make you happy again, in my arms. Just stay with me, I still love you…” I sobbed and lowered my head because I felt pitiful. “Choose me again and I promise… I promise you, you’ll never be hurt again. I’d do everything, just one more chance, baby.”
I took her hand; she didn’t pull away, so I thought there was still hope. But when she said something, my world turned blurry and dark.
“Staying married to you means death, Darius. And if all this ends with the decision in your favor, you will never bring me back home. I will kill myself before you ever get me again.”
