Chapter 20
POV Kaleo
“For what?” – I ask, with my eyes half–closed, having to tightly grip the edge of the wooden counter, almost crushing it to contain my anger.

“I can’t stay here,” — she whispers, her face reddening even more as she watches my chest rise. — “I have to leave, Kaleo, as soon as possible. I won’t survive on this planet, not even with a mountain of clothes on top of me.”
Melissa speaks carefully because she’s scared, but that only makes my anger grow. Azuris were never known for their patience, quite the opposite, we are warriors, we are
“barbarians,” as I’ve heard people say. And even though I’m doing my best here, the fire and growl want to escape me just as much.
“You are my female, I spoke to the village chief, and he will come later to marry us,” — I say through gritted teeth.
I woke up early, and the sky was still black when I went to Virg’s house to ask why he didn’t come yesterday when he was supposed to show up. The damn male said he “forgot,” as if it were nothing, but today he said he’d come because Melissa has to be connected to me soon, before some males gather the courage to try and steal her, and if that happens, I won’t be able to do anything.
In Selvaria, marriages are not undone.

“I’m not marrying you,” — she says, as if the idea of being my female offends her, and that makes me start breathing heavily.
As much as Melissa manages to enchant me, she also provokes an immense fire within me, an uncontrollable rage, which can only be coming from my days of being without a
female to mount.
And now that I’ve met her, smelled her, and touched her soft body, no other female will do. It has to be her. It has to be my Melissa.
“I bought you!” – I grunt, gripping the table even harder as smoke starts coming out of my nose again, which clearly freaks her out, and she steps away from me with blind steps.

“Unob will return your money!”

“I don’t want the money back, I want a female,” — I reply, my voice nearly disappearing from the hate, while that damn hologram repeats my words as if I didn’t care, in an
idiotic, bored tone.
“If any will do, then take your money back and buy another! One that knows what they’re getting into, because from me, you won’t get anything. I don’t want to be here, this place is too cold, and I don’t even know you!” she yells, pointing at me as her heart races, and
I have to close my eyes and take a deep breath.

If I keep looking at this tiny disobedient female, I will lose my patience and show her
what kind of Azuri I am, and I don’t want that. I can’t scare her even more.
But the way she speaks, the way she looks at me, it’s as if I’m trying to take advantage of
her, when, in fact, I know that this is the best place for Melissa to live.
She can’t go back to Earth anymore. Unob told me she was abducted, and living in
spaceships where she won’t even feel the wind on her face or eat real food is worse than
living in Selvaria. Here, I will protect her from everything and everyone.

“Unob told me you wanted to come, he said you knew what Selvaria was like and that you
would adapt.” More dark, dense smoke comes out of my nose, and I make a decision that will be better than growling and yelling. I’ll play her game and win. what you want, then call the male.”

I won’t tarnish the image I’m trying to build, but I also won’t let Melissa force me to show
her what I really want with her right now, hard and firm, the Azuri way of doing things. So I stretch the hologram toward her, and she’s so shocked and seems so scared of me that she doesn’t even accept it.
Melissa is stunned for a few seconds, probably not understanding my change in attitude.
“What do you want to give me this hologram for? Are you playing with me?”
I want to answer truthfully about what I really desire with her, but I swallow my words and stick to the damn plan to win her over, which will either be my ruin or my salvation, no middle ground.
“I saw that you tried to connect with him yesterday, so call Unob again and see what he

says. If you manage to get him to return my money, then you can leave.”
I hate saying this, I hate reducing the gift of having a female to just a coin I’ve gathered over the years in the Faleus‘ bank without caring. But I know Unob won’t return the brons, and she probably doesn’t have them to give me, and I also know that humans care too much about money because it’s the only thing they can own, since their bodies aren’t the most resilient for space.
So the suspicious female accepts the hologram and presses some buttons I don’t know, and soon the device makes sounds indicating she’s trying to connect with Unob’s hologram, since I did this before she arrived.
But of course, the bastard won’t accept the connection, because if this damn male sent Melissa here without saying anything, without even buying the heated clothing I paid for, it’s obvious that he will avoid any contact with her.

“He’s not answering,” — she murmurs, handing the hologram back to me with her tiny, pink human fingers.
But my Melissa looks devastated, and even though it’s crazy, a part of me wishes he would answer, just so she would be a little happy. Then I could threaten the last generation of this idiot and get the coordinates of where he is.
“But I need to leave anyway, Kaleo.” She bites her delicious, plump lower lip, still very
upset.

Does this human have any idea what she does to me? The hate I feel for her wanting to leave and the enormous excitement I feel just having her in the same room. I could mount her right here, right now, especially with my name on her lips, melting a bit of the ice in my hearts and making me release a long breath.
“Selvaria is in the first sector,” – I reveal, and she knows what that means by the look of
horror on her face.
Planets in the first and second sectors don’t have powerful ships, they’re considered dirty and inhospitable, with inhabitants difficult to deal with, and most of the time, they are very isolated, never knowing that other species exist out there. Earth is in the second sector, and I believe that’s why we look physically similar. But it’s just a theory.
But with the endless wars and the disease that killed many females and made the

remaining ones only give birth to males, the Faleus revealed themselves to us, breaking the laws.
They are a four–armed race that thinks they are much better than us from the “underdeveloped planet” and made us sign a peace treaty, in exchange for enough technology to save the planet from the volcanoes that woke up and threatened to destroy everything.
“There’s no way out of here then?”

But I’m used to bluffing, I’m a war general, I create tactics and win battles. And having Melissa is a battle I won’t give up on.
“No,” I lie, because unlike other first–sector planets, we do have contact with outsiders.

But if I say this, if I reveal to Melissa that Faleus live in Selvaria, in a small place they built to observe my planet, she will want to leave, and I can’t let that happen.
Now I just have to manage to hide the fact that there are even ships leaving Selvaria
periodically, ships that I had to board when I signed the peace treaty, until she understands that here is the best place to live.
