Despite the effort involved in these actions, there wasn’t a trace of awkwardness in him. In fact, it was oddly graceful and pleasing to watch.
Amelia stood by the bedside and suddenly thought of what Lily had said. Even if his legs were truly paralyzed, there would still be plenty of women secretly in love with him.
Was it really because of her that his accident had happened? She didn’t dare ask, afraid of touching a nerve.

Amelia was truly exhausted. The lingering effects of the drug had tormented her, and soaking in cold water for an hour had drained her completely. She fell asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow.
The next morning. Amelia didn’t wake up. She felt like her entire body was burning. Someone was speaking near her, then pried her mouth open and fed her something.
She frowned at the bitter taste, she instinctively tried to spit it out, but a firm hand held her jaw in place, forcing her to swallow it. Dylan set the bowl aside and glanced at the IV bottle next to her.

The doctor had been called in the middle of the night. Since 3:00 am, Amelia had been running a high fever.
Her recent discharge from the hospital, poor eating habits, and already weakened body had taken their toll. The cold water bath had pushed her over the edge.
It wasn’t until 7:00 pm that Amelia finally stirred awake. Her throat felt unbearably dry, as though it were on fire. She sat up abruptly, only to nearly faint from dizziness.
Dylan frowned and handed her a glass of water. After drinking it, Amelia still felt like she had forgotten something important.
She glanced at the clock on the wall and hurriedly got out of bed. “Sorry. I need to go. Tonight, Nolan is going to the Summers family to break off the engagement.”
If she didn’t show up, knowing Nolan’s self–absorbed tendencies, he would likely concoct a whole new story in his head.
Watching her stumble towards the door, Dylan let out a mocking laugh and set his cup down. “I thought, just for once, you were…”
“What?” Amelia asked, her mind foggy. She reached for the bedroom door but was overtaken by a wave of darkness.
Unable to help herself, she returned to the bed. After burning with fever all day, her body was completely spent. Before she could utter another word, she collapsed back into sleep.
Dylan remained seated beside her, his expression growing colder by the minute. After a long while, he turned his wheelchair and left the room without a word.
Meanwhile, Nolan had indeed arrived at the Summers residence. Hearing that Amelia had agreed to end the engagement, the Summers family was all smiles.
Alexander grinned at Milly, “Milly, congratulations! You and Nolan are finally going to be together. Once Amelia’s engagement is called off, are you two planning to get married right away?”
Milly’s face flushed with shy delight, though her heart was filled with malice. She thought bitterly that Amelia probably wouldn’t show up tonight.
After all, Timothy had already taken action. In a few hours, Amelia’s disgraceful photos would spread through every social circle. Everyone would despise her, and even he would give up any remaining hope for
her.
Milly’s lips curled into a smile, her eyes brimming with happiness. “The time is almost here. Amelia must be on her way now.”
Sitting to the side, Nolan snorted coldly. He didn’t believe for a second that Amelia would actually come.
