Chapter 13 Clearly, He Doesn’t Care About You
“Milly, Nolan is something I threw away. There’s no reason for me to pick it back up. If you like him, then take him and keep him, Amelia said casually as she hailed a cab.
Her words hit Milly where it hurt.
“Amelia, don’t kid yourself. Over the years, you’ve embarrassed yourself chasing after Nolan. There’s no way it’s you who dumped him. It’s obvious he doesn’t care about you. Do you know what he told me in bed? That he hasn’t even kissed you. How could you be so utterly devoid of charm?”
Amelia had already placed her hand on the car door. Hearing this, she chuckled softly. “If how often a woman is slept with determines her charm, then wouldn’t someone who sells herself be endlessly charming? Or maybe, have you ever thought, it’s just because you’re cheap?”
Her words were a veiled insult, but the meaning was clear. Milly’s face went pale, the insult cutting right into her most sensitive insecurity.
“You-!” She raised her hand to slap Amelia but was caught mid–motion. Amelia held Milly’s wrist firmly and looked at her furious face, her expression calm and emotionless.
The more composed Amelia remained, the more pitiful and disheveled Milly appeared in her anger.
Amelia pushed Milly’s hand away and said, “I’ve already told you. You can have Nolan. But you still don’t seem satisfied. Do you even like him? Or do you just enjoy taking things from me?”
Milly’s face turned even paler as she pressed her lips together tightly. Amelia couldn’t be bothered to waste another moment on her. She got into the car and told the driver to leave.
Milly stood there, trembling with rage, her chest heaving.
Amelia must have been faking it. There was no way she didn’t care about Nolan. Ha, she was probably going to find a quiet spot to cry like she always did. Thinking that brought Milly a twisted sense of satisfaction.
Just then, her phone rang. It was Nolan. “Milly, where are you? Are you almost here?” Milly’s eyes reddened, her voice tinged with tears, “I just ran into Amelia. She said a few things, but I’m fine. I’ll be there soon.”
Nolan’s tone immediately turned concerned. “What did Amelia do to you now? She’s so despicable!”
“Nolan, I’ll be there in ten minutes. Please don’t argue with Amelia. It’ll just make things worse for me.”
“You’re just too kind–hearted. Fine, come over first. Don’t let her ruin your mood for dinner.”
felt even more content. A man who treated Amelia like dirt was treating her like a queen. The stark contrast made her feel as though she had triumphed over Amelia.
Amelia, keep pretending. Soon, you won’t even have tears left to cry.
Amelia arrived at the Palm Bay neighborhood, heading toward the largest villa situated deep within the
estate.
Surrounded by several thousand square feet of gardens, it was completely isolated from the other properties, exuding an air of exclusivity.

After getting out of the cabs, she waited outside the large iron gate, clutching the résumé she had prepared.
She had a hunch that the reason her résumé hadn’t been accepted at Hale Corporation was either due to interference by Nathan or Dylan’s behest but Dylan, a man so high and mighty, wouldn’t stoop to such petty. tactics, It was likely Nathan’s doing.
Amelia stood there waiting, her patience unyielding, for four hours. It wasn’t until 10:00 pm that she finally saw Dylan’s car pulled up.
Her eyes lit up as she quickly approached, pushing aside the instinctive apprehension she felt toward him.
Screech!
The car stopped right in front of her, and the window rolled down.
“Mr. Hale,” Amelia said.
Dylan sat by the window, his tone cold, “What is it?”
“I submitted ten résumés to Hale Corporation today, and all of them were rejected,” she began Sincerely.
“I believe I meet all the qualifications your company is looking for. I reviewed the bidding plans in your recent announcements, and one project involves a rural revitalization initiative in Sienna Valley.
“I’ve also prepared a proposal for it in just a few hours. Mr. Hale, I hope you’ll take a look. I’m also willing to personally oversee this project in Sienna Valley.”
Projects like these were typically thankless. It was a way for corporations to earn goodwill and pave the way for future collaborations with the government, gaining benefits and resources in return.
The person assigned to such a project would need to endure hardships as Sienna Valley was notorious for being a poor, remote area.
Standing outside the car, Amelia’s eyes shone with determination. She bent slightly, gazing hopefully at the man inside.
Under her earnest gaze, few men could remain unmoved. Dylan shifted his gaze, his Adam’s apple bobbing slightly.
After a few seconds, he finally said, “For him, you’ve changed a lot this time.”
