Chapter 6 One Meal, 20,000 Dollars
Amelia finished her meal. Before she left, she felt embarrassed and sheepishly asked, “Can you lend me
some money
Liby took a deep breath. “Last week, you gave Nolan a pair of cufflinks worth 40,000 dollars. Now you’re telling me you’re broke?”
Amelia scratched her cheek awkwardly. “Yesterday’s hospital bill was borrowed from someone else. I’ll pay you back later.
Lily transferred 2000 dollars to Amelia via Venmo, then patted her shoulder. “Your family restricted your spending a long time ago. Yet, you love to save up all your money to buy gifts for Nolan or gain favor with his relatives.
“Forget it, it’s pointless to say more. You don’t need to pay me back. If you don’t have a place to stay tonight, continue to stay here,” Lily said.
Amelia was a bit touched. Now that she was determined to work at the Hale Corporation, she first needed to return home to retrieve her ID and other essentials.
When she arrived at the Summers family home, she felt uneasy and pressed the doorbell. A young man’s voice came from inside, “Who is it?”
Alexander opened the door and upon seeing Amelia, immediately grew annoyed.
“Amelia, what’s going on with you? Didn’t I tell you to make breakfast for me early? Why are you only coming back now? Hurry up and cook something. I’m starving.”
Amelia looked at the tall and handsome boy in front of her, who stood about 6 feet tall. She slowly bent down to change her shoes at the entrance.
“Isn’t Mrs. Sally home?” Amelia asked.
“Mrs. Sally’s cooking isn’t as good as yours. What’s wrong with you? You’ve been cooking for so long, and now you’re saying this? Isn’t it your job to cook for the family? Even when you had a high fever before, you’d still cook for us. Mom would praise you, and you’d be over the moon,” Alexander said.
Amelia felt a weight in her chest as she glanced at the couch. Sitting there were Milly, Celia, and her father, James Summers.
When Celia saw Amelia’s return, she snorted coldly and said, “I thought you weren’t coming back to cook breakfast this morning. Couldn’t keep up the act, could you? Go to the kitchen now. Alexander is starving. You’re such a failure as a sister.”
Milly sat gracefully on the two–seater couch and smiled at the comment.
“Amelia, I’d like shrimp and broccoli sauté. Don’t use too much salt in the dishes on the menu these days. I’m worried about water retention since I’ll be taking glamour shots with Nolan soon.”
Then she turned to Celia and said, “Mom, Dad, what would you like to eat?”
Celia’s face softened instantly, her expression filled with affection as she patted Milly’s head. “Milly, you’re always so considerate.”
Amelia stood at the entrance, finding it laughable.

She even saw Mrs. Sally approach, handing her an apron with a slight accusatory tone, saying, “Ms. Amelia, you used to get up at five to make breakfast. Why are you only back at seven today? Everyone’s been waiting, hungry. Next time you’re late, remember to let us know in advance”
It seemed like everyone treated Amelia as a laborer. Amelia didn’t take the apron. Instead, she turned and headed for the stairs.
Everyone froze. Alexander immediately exploded. “Amelia, what’s your problem? I’m starving! First, apologize to Milly. Yesterday was her birthday, and you weren’t even here! Then go cook!”
Celia chimed in, “Amelia, they like your cooking, and you’re used to making it. Stop being so petty at a time like this.”
Amelia had reached the stairs. She paused and gave a smile. Her features were stunningly elegant. When she didn’t smile, she appeared cold and indifferent, her skin glowing like polished jade.
In elite social circles of Solandis, Amelia’s beauty undoubtedly had a place, though she had often been mocked for chasing after Nolan for years.
“Each meal is 20,000. Who’s paying?” Her words brought a strange silence to the room.
James slammed his newspaper onto the coffee table, his face dark as if he didn’t recognize his own daughter. “Ridiculous! Where did you pick up such unsophisticated behavior?”
Amelia calmly tucked her hair behind her ear, her gaze swept over the four people. “Why should I cook for you for free? I put in all the effort, all Milly does is ask you what you’d like to eat and you think she’s more considerate? If that’s the case, let her cook.”
She turned to head upstairs, but Milly immediately burst into tears.
“Amelia, what do you mean by this? You’re the one who insisted on cooking back then, saying it was to make it up to me. I know you’ve been upset with me since I came back five years ago. You’ve always felt like I took something from you. Fine, I’ll just move out.” She lowered her head, wiping her tears, looking utterly wronged.
Celia was heartbroken, while Alexander quickly’scolded, “Amelia, look at what you’ve done. Why are you always like this?”
Amelia couldn’t be bothered anymore. She suppressed the stifling bitterness in her chest and tugged her lips into a smirk, “Fine, move out. Want me to pack your bags for you?”
Milly hadn’t expected her to say that and looked even more aggrieved. “I knew it. No matter what I do, you’ll never like me.”
“Why are you crying? Did I hit you or scold you? Your tears come so easily. If you jumped into the river outside, the whole nation would have a spectacle to watch. You and that scumbag Nolan are a perfect match. Stay together. Just don’t bother me anymore.”
Milly’s tears stopped abruptly as she stared at her in disbelief. The old Amelia would have never fought back like this, let alone said a harsh word about Nolan.
Perhaps she had been pushed to the edge. A faint smirk crossed Milly’s lips. Fine by her. She’d been sick of Amelia’s face for a long time and would love to see it ruined. A flash of jealousy flickered in her eyes. “How could you talk about Nolan like that..”
Amelia couldn’t care less about arguing with them and headed straight upstairs.

Celia was furious and chased after Amelia. “You’re completely out of your mind. Do you even hear the nonsense you’re saying?”
She reached out to grab Amelia’s sleeve but Amelia brushed her hand away. Celia froze, stunned for several
seconds.
This daughter of hers used to be so obedient, always working tirelessly. Even the slightest bit of praise would light up her eyes.
Celia’s discomfort grew. “Have you been possessed?”
Amelia ignored her, went upstairs, and asked a helper where her room was. When she found it, the room was a mess. Inside, there was even a piano and several other instruments.
When she took a closer look, she noticed they were labeled with names. Some belonged to Milly, others to Alexander.
So this enormous villa had no space for instruments? They had to put them in her bedroom?
What did they take her room for? A storage closet?
