Chapter 5 Kicking Aside The Nuisance

Amelia had grievances that she couldn’t voice and seeing how tired Lily was, she decided not to say anything.
Lily placed a new set of pajamas on the bed. “There’s a private bathroom in your room. Go take a shower and rest. I’m exhausted today, so I won’t be chatting with you.”
Amelia nodded and said calmly, “Thank you.”
When she saw Lily walk to one of the bedroom doors, she knew the other room must be hers. Amelia took the pajamas and went for a shower. Afterward, she finally felt much more comfortable.
Just as she was about to fall asleep, her phone buzzed with a new message. When she opened it, she saw it was from her younger brother, Alexander Summers.
The message from Alexander read, “Amelia, I’m home for vacation and just got here. Today is Milly’s birthday. Why aren’t you here? Mom said you ran away from home again. Aren’t you tired of this? Come back already. The food Mrs. Sally cooks doesn’t suit me, I prefer your cooking. Make salad for me tomorrow morning, okay?
“Milly even cried tonight. When you get back, apologize first. You always stir up trouble like this. Doesn’t it exhaust you? Nolan doesn’t like you. Sometimes, because of you, I feel embarrassed in front of others.”
Amelia’s heart ached again. She clenched her phone tightly, feeling like the entire world loved Milly, while shenwas nothing but trash—kicked aside yet still as a nuisance.
Though she had lost her memory, her heart was still flesh and blood. It instinctively hurt.

The next morning, she woke up early with dark circles under her eyes.
She went to the kitchen to start cooking and was surprised to find that she seemed to be quite skilled.
Lily came out of her room, smelled the food and let out a sigh.
“Are you making breakfast for Nolan again? All these years, has he ever once eaten the food you’ve sent him? A wealthy young lady running off to study culinary skills instead of finding a proper job after graduation, all for chasing after him.
“What do you get in return? Everyone’s ridicule. What are you even doing this for?” Lily said. Amelia paused mid-stir with the ladle. She wanted to explain that it wasn’t for Nolan.
But as things stood, no one around her seemed to believe her. She plated a few side dishes and brought them to the dining table.
Lily’s résumé was on the table. Amelia glanced at it and asked, “Lily, I want to go out and find a job. What did I major in at university?”
Lily looked at the dishes on the table and furrowed her brows in thought for a moment. “Amelia, this act of yours is more convincing than ever.”
Amelia felt a bitter pang in her heart. She pushed the pot of soup toward Lily. “Just tell me.”
Lily sat down, took a few bites, and sighed.
“You majored in finance, but your family’s company belongs to Alexander. You probably don’t even know which way the office door opens. Even Milly has a 10% share of the company, but you have nothing.
“After graduating, you had the chance to intern there but you didn’t go because you felt working would take up the time you needed to chase after Nolan. Now, Milly is making a name for herself in the company. Everyone knows about Milly from the Summers family, but nobody knows about Amelia Summers.”
Amelia quietly ate a few bites and suddenly said, “Then I’ll go work at the Hale Corporation. Isn’t Dylan back in the country? I want to pursue him.”
Cough, cough, cough. Lily choked on her soup, as though she had just heard the most absurd thing. She quickly grabbed a tissue to wipe her mouth.
“Didn’t you always hate Dylan? Because Nolan doesn’t like him, you followed suit and didn’t get along with him either. Every time his name came up, you looked disgusted. Do you even know what level Dylan operates on?
“He graduated from Harvard with dual degrees at 18, founded the largest acquisitions company abroad at 19, and has been a regular feature in Wall Street financial publications. If it weren’t for that car accident two years ago that left him paralyzed, there wouldn’t be a single woman in Solandis who wouldn’t be infatuated with him,” Lily ranted.
Amelia recalled the pleasant voice she had heard on the phone and couldn’t help but ask, “What does he look like?”
Lily searched on the web and found a photo taken by a foreign media outlet. “Here.”
The man in the photo was wearing a black suit, the topmost button of his shirt fastened, giving off a restrained and slightly ascetic aura. His gaze at the camera was cold and deep, like a winter ocean under the midnight sky, seemingly hiding turbulent waves beneath.
It was the most breathtaking face Amelia had ever seen, far more handsome than Nolan’s by a hundredfold.
Lily remarked from the side, “What a pity. Since the accident, he hasn’t returned to Solandis and there’s been no news of him in either domestic or international media. But with that face, even if his legs are paralyzed, there’s still a line of women willing to pursue him.”
Amelia took a sip of soup and suddenly said, “Nolan said that Dylan’s my boyfriend. I’m going to Hale Corporation.
Lily looked at her with an expression that was hard to describe, raising her hand to rub her temples.
“Are you going to Hale Corporation to chase after Nolan or to pursue Dylan? Do as you please. If you can conquer that unattainable noble Dylan, I’ll never criticize you again.”
