Chapter 3 A Heart Overwhelmed by Injustice
She didn’t know who to ask for the 4000 dollars. In the end, at 9:00 pm, she dialed Dylan’s number again.
On the other end came a deep, cold, and raspy voice, like snowflakes in the winter. “Amelia?”
Amelia’s throat seemed to be choked in an instant, her heart filled with overwhelming grievance. “Hello, Dylan. Could you lend me 4000 dollars? I’m at the hospital and can’t afford the medical fees.”
The sound of faint breathing came through the phone, along with the subtle rustling of fabric.
Just when Amelia thought she was about to be rejected, she heard him ask, “What’s your account number?”
“I . . . I’ll find it.” She hurriedly grabbed the bag next to her and quickly searched through it, fearing he might hang up.
The nurse had said this was her bag but inside, there was only makeup products for touch-ups.
Finally, in the innermost compartment, she found a bank card and relayed the account number. In less than a minute, the notification sound of the money transfer came through.
Amelia was reluctant to hang up the phone. After all, he was the only person willing to respond to her after she had lost her memory.
She hesitated for three minutes, unable to think of anything to say. Strangely enough, Dylan didn’t hang up either.
In the silent receiver, their breathing could be heard.
“Dylan, I…” Amelia started.
“Are the injuries serious?” His voice wasn’t gentle. It even carried the chill of the night wind.
Yet, Amelia heard the concern she had craved most since waking up
She felt touched but being poor with words, she could only say, “I’m fine now. Thank you. I’ll find a way to repay you.”
“Amelia, how long are you planning to deceive me this time?”
Her heart thudded violently. She quickly hung up the phone, her thoughts in disarray.
What did he mean? Could it be that she had frequently lied to Dylan in the past?
No matter how much she thought, she couldn’t figure it out. The more she thought, the more confused she became.
In the end, she could only pay off the overdue fees and complete the discharge procedures. However, standing at the hospital gate, she felt lost and didn’t know where to go.
She had no money on her and didn’t know where she lived. Eventually, she discovered the direction to her home through her Notes App and took a cab there.
It was a beautiful villa, with a meticulously maintained garden.
The cab driver tapped the steering wheel. “It’s 20 dollars, cash or Venmo?”
Amelia got out of the car, her face full of awkwardness. Just then, a luxury car approached.
The car window rolled down, revealing Nolan’s face. In the passenger seat sat Milly, looked fresh and innocent with her makeup.
Milly got out of the car and asked with concern, “Amelia, why are you out of the hospital?”
Today, Milly was dressed beautifully. Her dress was adorned with sparkling diamonds, and the limited-edition handbag in her hand was worth at least 600,000 dollars.
“Didn’t Nolan tell you? Your boyfriend is Dylan. Are you trying to make trouble for me again?” Milly’s eyes reddened.
Before Amelia could say anything, Nolan, who was in the driver’s seat, got out with a mocking expression.
“I thought you’d last longer this time. Turns out you couldn’t hold out for even six hours. Amelia, aren’t you pathetic? Do I have to keep repeating that I love Milly?
“Don’t you have any self-respect? Can’t go a day without being humiliated? Why do you always target Milly?” Dylan said.
Milly leaned into his arms, gently shaking her head. “Forget it, Nolan. I’m used to it.”
The last trace of colour drained from Amelia’s face. She was still dressed in an oversized hospital gown, her thick black eyelashes trembled uncontrollably, like fragile, precious glazed jade that could shatter with a touch.
She forced herself not to look at the scene before her and said in a hoarse voice, “Do you have 20 dollars? Could you lend it to me?”
Nolan sneered, the disgust on his face undisguised. ” I’d rather give it to a dog than to you.”
He looked down at Milly who was in his arms, coaxing her, “Let’s go inside. Ignore her. ”
Milly wiped her eyes and smiled lightly. “Here’s my card, Amelia. You can use it.”
Amelia lowered her lashes, forcing herself to suppress the sourness in her heart. She wanted to throw away her pride and accept the card cause she desperately needed money.
One has to be realistic.
But just as her fingers were about to touch the card, another luxury car pulled up beside her.
Her mother, Celia Yoon, stepped out of the car angrily. Seeing the scene before her, she strode over and slapped Amelia across the face!
“Are you bullying Milly again? Haven’t you taken enough money from her? Amelia, what do you want from us? Do you want everyone to be miserable because of you?
“Since Milly was found, you’ve been picking on her every day. Why weren’t you the one who got kidnapped back then? After everything Milly had suffered, you still don’t understand!”
