Chapter 1 Amelia Summers’ Memory Loss

“Ms. Summers in ward 16, you still can’t remember anything? You’ve been hospitalized for three days now. Your family needs to come and pay the hospital bills as soon as possible.”
Amelia Summers’ head was wrapped in gauze. She gave an apologetic smile and said “I’m sorry, I just can’t remember my phone’s password.”
“Then, do you have any emergency contacts?”
“I…”
Before she could finish, the door to the ward was pushed open forcefully. A handsome young man walked in, his face full of impatience.
“How many times has this been? What kind of trick are you playing this time? You took Milly out with you and had a car accident. If Milly wasn’t lucky, she’d be disfigured because of you.
“Let me tell you, Amelia, our engagement was called off. Don’t think that your attempts to cater to me will change anything. Even if you throw yourself in the river for me, I still won’t like you,” said Nolan Hale.
Behind Nolan stood a gentle-looking woman, who lightly tugged on his sleeve.
“Nolan, I’m really fine. Amelia didn’t mean it. My injuries are already healed. Please don’t blame her anymore. Thankfully when the windshield shattered, it didn’t cut my face, or else…” said the woman.
Amelia’s eyes showed a trace of confusion. She touched the gauze on her head.
She had only just woken up that morning. The nurse had told her she’d been at death’s door and that they still couldn’t reach her family.
Nolan frowned. He was indeed handsome, dressed in a well-tailored suit and was holding Milly Summers tightly in his arms.
“Amelia, the one I like is Milly. Although we’re childhood friends, I never had that kind of feeling for you. You’ve been a lapdog for five years. Don’t you find it disgusting?
“Because of you, Milly never dared to express her feelings for me. Today, I’m making it clear to you. Your behaviour is pathetic. Milly and I are in a relationship. I would never abandon her,” Nolan explained.
Milly’s face was full of emotion as she clung to his arm. A look of triumph flashed briefly in her eyes, “Nolan…”
Amelia looked downward. Looking at their intimacy had her heart feel as if it was being gnawed by ants, leaving her breathless. All the grievances she had endured surged up at once, her eyes stinging with tears.
Still, she forced herself to interrupt their conversation. “I apologise, but I don’t know either of you. I think I might have a boyfriend. Do you know his number? Please have him come here.”
It seemed like there was a faint memory of someone in her mind.
Nolan’s expression flickered with doubt and shock. After regaining his composure, he sneered. Was this her new ploy?
Coincidentally, the television on the wall was broadcasting financial news. It was reporting on Dylan Hale, the youngest CEO of the Hale Corporation, who had returned to the country.
Rumour had it that Dylan had been in a car accident two years ago, leaving him paralyzed and half his face disfigured. He had refused to make any public appearances ever since.
Nolan pointed at the television screen and said, “That’s my cousin, Dylan Hale. He’s your boyfriend. I’ve given you his phone number. Go find him.”
He took Amelia’s phone, unlocked it skillfully, and left a phone number.
Beside him, Milly covered her mouth, her eyes brimming with amusement. She spoke softly, “Nolan, is this really okay? Two years ago, your cousin was like that because of her…”
Nolan pulled her by her waist, his gaze full of disdain. After being his lapdog for five years, could she really give up so easily? This was just a game of cat and mouse.
Since she doesn’t remember who her boyfriend was, he might as well let her get involved with the person she hated the most—Dylan Hale.
“I’ve given you his contact information. Amelia, this time, you’d better keep pretending for more than a week. Otherwise, even if you kneel in front of me later, I won’t spare you another glance.”
