Chapter 15
Rhett let out a cold, joyless laugh.
“Love you? Who said that? I love Vivian. I always have. You? You’re just entertainment.”
You thought you could lay a finger on her? You thought I’d let that slide?”
He turned to the assistant. “Why aren’t you moving? You need me to show you how it’s done?”
The assistant clenched his jaw.
In his mind, he thought: If you loved her, you wouldn’t have destroyed her.
But he said nothing.
And did exactly what he was ordered to do.
Smack.
The sound echoed.
Faye’s head snapped sideways.
One hit–and her cheek was already swelling.
No more fake tears.
No more delicate expressions.
ust raw, ugly, real panic.
She crumpled against the wall, sobbing uncontrollably.
Rhett… I was wrong. I was really wrong. Please… don’t hit me anymore. I’ll apologize to Vivian. I
wear I will!”
Please… please stop. I’ll be disfigured. I’ll die…”
Faye curled into a ball, desperately using both hands to shield her face.

But Rhett never gave the order to stop.
With a cold, expressionless face, Assistant Henry grabbed her wrists and yanked them away–then landed another vicious slap.
Smack! Smack!
After several harsh slaps, Faye lay nearly unconscious on the floor.
Her face was grotesquely swollen–no trace of the once–sweet, delicate beauty remained.
But she didn’t care anymore.
All she could think about was getting away.
Rhett was insane.
She couldn’t understand it.
How had the man who once adored her, who spoke to her so tenderly–become this monster
overnight?
It’s obvious that once upon a time she hid it well.
Trying not to make a sound, she began inching toward the door, hoping to slip away unnoticed.
But Assistant Henry saw right through her.
He grabbed her ankle and dragged her back, landing another slap.
Smack!
The sound echoed.
Again.
And again.
Rhett felt a migraine rising.
He waved his hand, impatient. “Enough.”

“Take her away. Don’t let her die–I’m not done with her yet. Have the guards finish the rest of the hundred slaps. Then lock her in the cold storage room for ten days. But keep her alive.”
“As for her parents–cut off their treatment. They owe Vivian blood. Have it drawn and sent back to
her.”
“Yes, sir,” Assistant Henry replied, dragging Faye out.
Faye looked back at Rhett, eyes full of desperation.
She didn’t understand.
How had things come to this?
She and her parents were all going to be destroyed.
She couldn’t accept it.
Struggling with the last of her strength, she threw herself at Rhett.
“Even if I did something wrong–even if I hurt Vivian–I only did it because you taught me to! You said I could do whatever I wanted! That you’d protect me no matter what!”
“You told me–even if I tore the sky open, it’d be okay. Rhett, why?! Don’t you love me anymore?!”
