Chapter 2
I couldn’t stop shaking. Hot tears rolled down my cheeks and splashed onto his hand.
I didn’t understand. I truly didn’t.
How did it come to this?
Back then… Rhett had loved me. So deeply. So real.
I was just a girl from an ordinary family. He was the heir to a top–tier family empire. A born elite–proud, untouchable.
And yet, he fell for me at first sight.
He chased me with a desperation that shook the whole city. Ninety–nine public confessions, each one more outrageous than the last.
A helicopter dropping a giant rose banner. Renting out an entire financial district to display his love across LED billboards. On my birthday, the entire city lit up in fireworks–for me.
I was moved. But my parents were against it, firmly.
They knew what the wealthy world was really like–glamour on the surface, rot underneath.
Love stories in that world were never fairy tales.
They wanted me to marry someone on our level.
But Rhett knelt at our doorstep for an entire day and night, throwing away all pride, just to marry
- me.
Eventually, my parents gave in.
After we married, Rhett spoiled me endlessly. He gave me everything.
One time I cut my finger–he flew back overnight from overseas, bringing an entire private medical team to check on me.
I mentioned craving chestnut cake from a patisserie in France–he got on a plane that same day to

bring it back himself.
I truly believed… I had married the right man.
Until the first time I heard the name “Faye.”
It was casual–an assistant gossiping, saying a waitress had deliberately fallen into Rhett’s arms
during a speech. Typical seduction move.
I didn’t care. Too many women wanted to get close to him. But he’d always been loyal. Or so I
thought.
The second time was in bed.
He was on top of me, deep in the moment–then whispered, “Faye.”
In that instant, it felt like I had fallen into a frozen abyss.
I confronted him, demanding the truth. He held me close, trying to explain.
Yes, he admitted, he had thought about keeping her. But just for fun.
“Everyone in our circle does this, Vivian,” he said softly. “But the one I truly love is still you. That’s
never changed.”
But things changed.
He got bolder, more reckless.
Jewelry for Faye. A luxury villa. Even took her to private parties.
The rumors were everywhere.
I cried, I argued, but he never comforted me again.
Just coldly threw out one line: “Stop being unreasonable.”
I’d had enough.
So I sent Faye out of the country.
I never expected Rhett’s reaction to be this extreme.

He kidnapped my parents. Strapped bombs to them. All to make me talk.
“She’s in Switzerland,” I whispered through trembling lips. “Zurich. In the villa under my name.”
Rhett stared at me for several seconds, as if trying to tell whether I was lying.
Then he picked up his phone and made a call.
Once he got confirmation, he grabbed his suit jacket and turned to leave.
“What about my parents?” I clutched his sleeve in panic. “You promised–if I told you, you’d let them
go!”
He looked back, eyes flat and emotionless.
“Abandoned factory. South side of the city. Go find them yourself.”
I threw on my clothes and stumbled out the door.
Got in my car.
Drove straight to the south side.
When I found them, the bomb still had five minutes left.
They were tied to chairs, mouths taped shut.
The moment they saw me, they shook their heads wildly, telling me to leave.
I ran over, hands shaking as I tried to untie the ropes.
But the bomb’s countdown ticked like a death sentence.

I couldn’t undo the knots. Tears poured down my face in desperation.
Suddenly, my dad jerked forward, ramming into me. I stumbled back-
Then he threw himself onto the bomb.

“Dad-!!”
The explosion tore through the air.
A wave of heat slammed me into the ground.
I hit hard. The world turned blood red.
Seven days later, I woke up in a hospital bed.
When I learned they were gone, my heart went completely dark.
I didn’t even have the strength left to cry.
After I found out about Faye, I did consider divorce.
But every time I drafted an agreement, Rhett would rip it apart.
He said she was just a fling.
Said he’d throw her away when he was tired.
Said I was the only woman he ever truly loved.
Said I’d be his forever.
‘Ms. Vivian.”
At that moment, a lawyer knocked on the door of my hospital room, “Your father, Mr. David–Bennett,
entrusted me with this document during his lifetime in the event of his unexpected death.”
He handed me a folder.
The moment I read the contents, my eyes widened in shock.
‘In case you don’t remember on the day your parents agreed to attend your wedding, they had your husband, Mr. Rhett Sinclair, sign these divorce papers.”
‘If Mr. Rhett Sinclair ever betrayed you, the agreement would take effect immediately. You can walk away–no negotiations. He also left you a sizeable inheritance. Enough for you to leave this place

forever.”
Tears streamed down my face.
They had already paved the way for my escape.
While I was still sobbing, the lawyer gently took my hand in comfort.
As our hands touched, I felt something slip between my fingers–a folded piece of paper.
I froze, keeping my face neutral.
It wasn’t until he left that I curled up under the covers and used my phone’s dim light to read the
words.
The next day, I did two things.
First, I took the signed divorce papers to the law firm.
The lawyer read through them and nodded. “It’s valid. The divorce takes effect immediately.”
Second, I went to get my identity canceled.
Once that was done, Vivian ceased to exist.
And Rhett-
He would never find me again.
