The Wesley estate was heavy with silence, the soft patter of rain against the window the only sound
Linda’s gaze flicked nervously to Kenneth, who was seated on the sola. She mustered her courage and spoke softly “Uncle Pen, Brielle’s been waiting for you for five years. Are you ready to see her?”
Linda, daughter of Zane Wesley, Kenneth’s eldest cousin, still found it hard to grasp the truth–amnesia, a plot twist from a worn out script, had befallen her revered uncle Kenneth.
Linda pressed on, sensing Kenneth’s silence. “Uncle Ken, Brielle is an amazing person. You wouldn’t have picked her if she wasn’t
M twenty, Linda still felt a shower of fear when it came to Kenneth, and she suspected her father left the sa
Since taking the helm of the Wesley family at a young age, Kermath commanded respect and fear from every member. It seemed everyone in the family was intimidated by him.
As she sang Brielle’s praises, Kenneth’s Indifference was palpable. He had one thing on his mind. “The pendant,” he asked. “Did I give it to her?”
Linda nodded in confirmation. “Yes, Uncle Ken, that pendant was yours, always by your side. Your last words before you lost consciousness were to find Brickle.”
She then looked over at Shawn, who was standing nearby, a hint of a blush on her cheeks. “And it was Shawn who found her back then.”
“Linda’s right,” Shawn chimed in, leaning casually against the wall. He wasn’t a fan of Brielle, but he admitted, “You did give her the pendant, Kenneth. Maybe seeing her could spark a memory.”
After pondering for a moment, Kenneth gave his consent. “Let her come over.”
“Alright, il tell Brielle right away.” Linda said, a sense of relief washing over her. She shot Shawn a grateful smile as she spoke.
At that moment, Kenneth’s phone, lying on the table, buzzed with an incoming call from an unknown number. He glanced at the screen and nonchalantly hit “decline,”
Linda paused at the door and broached another subject. “By the way, Uncle Ken, my dad’s illegitimate son is pushing to be part of the family. What are your thoughts on handling that?”
The mention of Norbert turned Linda’s stomach. She struggled to accept that her father, whom she saw as kind and loving, had a child out of wedlock, one older than her.
Kenneth had heard whispers about this illegitimate son, but with his recent awakening, he was in no state to focus on such matters.
Just then, a chime from Kenneth’s phone interrupted the moment. He picked it up and froze as he read the brief message: [Kenneth, it’s Joanna Iwant to meet you
Noticing that Kenneth had been handed a new matter, Shawn approached Linda and gently said, “Linda, maybe you should head back for now. It’s just about an illegitimate son; there’s no need to get too upset.”
“Shawn, I can’t stand him,” Linda replied. “Only Uncle Ken can stop my dad’s plans.” She was well aware that Kenneth, as the patriarch of the Wesley family, held the ultimate authority in all matters.
Half a year ago, her father Zane had connected with Norbert, but the official acknowledgment as his son was still pending, held up by Kenneth’s authority Now, with Kenneth awake, Norbert’s fate truly rested in his hands,
Linda was keen on the meeting between Kenneth and Brielle for another reason. Kenneth was always aloof, with no women in his immediate circle. Yet, he had given Brielle that pendant, suggesting a unique connection.
If Kenneth could be swayed by Brielle’s charm, she might be able to influence him, potentially resolving g the issue with Harbert.

“Zane’s got ambition, but his daughter’s as green as they come,” Shawn said with a soft laugh after seeing Linda off.
He continued, “Word it Zane’s illegitimate son built a business from scratch and he’s get some real tale Seems like Zane fames his son over his daughter. I’d bet money he’ll be reaching out to you soon, hoping to get the son officially recognized by the family:
Kenneth’s voice remained cool and detached. “If he’s got no talent, then he’s got no right to join the Wesley family,” he stated, making it clear that he wasn’t planning on thing involved
Shawn wasn’t surprised, Zane, as the eldest of the Wesley family and Kenneth’s cousin, had every right to acknowledge his own son
His son, though born out of wedlock, carried the Wesley blood, and as long as he was of good character, there was no harm in welcoming him back into the fold
Just then, another notification broke the silence, Kenneth glanced at his phone and saw it was yet another message from Joanna: [Kenneth, you’re not replying. Are you mad?]
Remembering the hospital incident where Joanna had insulted him with money and thrown water in his face, Kenneth intended to ignore her messages But the new messages kept pouring in: [I’m sony, Kenneth, please forgive me, and talk to me, okay?
Joanna had clearly changed her approach, now attempting to coax him with softer words. Does she think I can be so easily swayed?” he wondered to himsell, but his fingers lingered on the screen for a moment.
Shawn’s curiosity got the better of him as he asked outright, “Who’s that, Kenneth? Aren’t you going to reply!”
“It’s just spam,” Kenneth dismissed, eventually setting his phone to silent and casting it aside.
Shawn couldn’t help but recall a particular someone. “Kenneth, is it a woman texting you? The one from Regal Elegance Club, the really beautiful one you had that fight for!”
“Yeah, it’s her,” Kenneth interrupted, his voice flat as he slowly closed his eyes and murmured, “She’s married.”
He had no intention of getting entangled with a married woman. Yet, despite his resolve, the memories of that night surged back.
When Joanna stepped into the office, she was drenched from the rain. She was late, a rarity for her.
Glances and hushed voices followed her as she made her way to her own office. “Did you hear?” one person whispered. “Mr. Wesley asked Ms. Mayfield to
entertain a client.”
“Ms. Mayfield couldn’t swallow her pride,” another added. “She insulted the client, and now the contract’s on hold.”
“I mean, it’s not her job to entertain clients, but come on, we should think about the company’s benefits. She was too hasty,” a colleague added.
As the afternoon shift wound down, Emma, Norbert’s secretary, nudged open Joanna’s office door. “Ms. Mayfield, Mr. Wesley is really upset about what happened. He thinks you should take a few days off to reflect on your actions.”
Joanna looked stunned, her face drained of color. “Okay,” she managed to say,
As soon as Emma closed the door behind her, word of Joanna’s clash with Benson, their client, raced through the office like a brush fire. It wasn’t long before Diana, the Pit department head, sent Joanna a private WhatsApp message
Diana: Ms. Mayfield, try not to stress too much. Once Benson cools off and signs the contract, things will look up. But do think about what might have set Mr. Norbert off It seems like he’s got you in his sights.|
A wry smile crossed Joanna’s lace, silent and bitter. At the company, only Emma was aware of her true identity–as Edmunds daughter and Norbert’s

At that moment, Joanna’s mind was elsewhere. She gazed blankly at her phone, noting the silence after a string of messages she’d sent to Kenneth
