“Sophia Wilson, Henry’s voice carried that quiet authority that had once made me tremble, “when did you become so ill–mannered? Stand up properly!”
“My leg hurts!” I struggled harder. “Let go of me! If you don’t release me right now, I’ll scream!”
Henry’s response was to tighten his grip further, practically lifting me off my feet as we reached the VIP wing’s entrance. That’s when inspiration struck.
I let my legs go completely slack, dropping to the polished floor with a dramatic thud. The move caught Henry off guard, forcing him to either release me or risk being pulled down as well.
“Help!” I screamed at the top of my lungs, watching heads turn in our direction. “Someone please help! This shameless soon–to–be ex–husband is harassing me!”
People began gathering, drawn by the spectacle of a well–dressed man manhandling a woman in professional attire. Perfect.
“Please, someone call the police!” I continued, my voice carrying clearly through the hospital corridor. “He’s my soon–to–be ex–husband! We’re getting divorced because he keeps multiple mistresses! Today he brought one of them here for a check–up and tried to get me back to him. When I refused, he threatened to hit me!”
Murmurs of disapproval rippled through the growing crowd.
“Oh my God,” a woman in scrubs whispered loudly, “he looks so respectable, but what a scumbag!”
“Poor woman,” another voice chimed in, “getting stuck with such a bastard.”
‘Looks can be deceiving,” someone else added. “All that fancy clothing, but he’s just trash inside!”
“Disgusting!” An elderly lady spat, “And his mistress must be just as bad, letting him treat his wife this way!”
Henry stood frozen, his perfect composure cracking as accusations flew from all directions. His expensive suit and commanding presence, usually so effective at controlling situations, now worked against him – making him look exactly like the wealthy abuser I’d described.
“She’s lying!” Henry’s attempt at explanation only made things worse. A paper cup sailed through the air, splattering coffee across his pristine shirt.
“Liar!” Someone shouted. “We all saw you grabbing/her!”

More projectiles followed wadded paper, empty cups, even a half–eaten sandwich. Henry’s attempt to shield himself while maintaining dignity only encouraged the mob’s fury.
“That’s right!” I added fuel to the fire. ‘He bought an entire hospital just to get me fired because I wouldn’t let his mistress boss me around! Who does that to the mother of their child?”
The crowd’s reaction was immediate and violent. Security guards appeared but seemed reluctant to intervene, perhaps worried about being caught on the

Thomas’s warm chuckle carried through the line. “I wish I had. Listen, I have the complete video footage of you being locked in that bathroom. Should we make it public??
I considered the offer. “Send it to me first. I’ll save it for when we really need it.”
“Good thinking.” A pause, then, “I’m actually downstairs now. Want to pick up Billy together and grab dinner?”
My heart warmed at his thoughtfulness. “That sounds perfect.”
Thomas waited by his car, his gentle smile a balm to my battered spirit. I quickened my pace, eager to put this horrible day behind me.
Just as I slid into the passenger seat, a familiar black sedan turned into the hospital entrance. Through the tinted windows, I caught a glimpse of Henry’s profile.
But it was too late. Thomas’s car pulled smoothly away from the curb, carrying me toward my son’s school. In the rearview mirror, I watched Henry’s car grow smaller until it disappeared entirely.
“Ready to start fresh?” Thomas asked softly.
I closed my eyes, feeling the weight of the day settle around my shoulders, “Yes,” I whispered. “More than ready.”
My phone buzzed with a message from Betty: “OMG girl, you’re trending! #HardingDivorce is everywhere!”
I laughed, the sound surprisingly genuine. Let them talk. Let Isabella Scott have her precious Henry Harding. I was done playing by their rules.
“You know he’ll retaliate,” Thomas said quietly as we waited at a red light.
“Let him try.” I straightened my spine, remembering the look on Henry’s face as that sandwich hit his perfect suit. ‘I’m not afraid anymore.”
The light turned green, and Thomas’s car merged smoothly into traffic. Behind us, somewhere in this vast city, Henry Harding was probably already plotting his revenge. But for now, in this moment, I was simply Sophia Wilson – not a trophy wife, not a silent victim.
“Thomas?” I turned to look at him, really look at him, for the first time since entering his car.
