Chapter 7
Just as Moira’s victory seemed assured, I suddenly threw down a “reversal” card, followed by a
“clear all.”
Her face went pale as I took one set of her chips.
She protested indignantly: “You just played a special card first, I was about to win too! That doesn’t
count, I still win!”
Without waiting for my response, she directly placed her unplayed card on the table, determined to claim victory.
I stared at her for a few seconds, as if looking at a tantrum–throwing child. “Does that mean I can add a card too? Why don’t we both win then?”
As I spoke, I continued playing cards, completely shutting her down.
A minute later, she had no cards left in her hand; I had taken almost the entire deck.
Moira’s face flushed red as she threw a fit: “Let’s play again!”
Second round, third round… the more she lost, the more desperate she became. I either finished her off quickly and cleanly or deliberately toyed with her until she broke down.
Finally, she cried.
Rowan abruptly stood up, snatched the cards from my hand, his expression ice–cold: “Enough.”
Moira threw herself into his arms, crying as if her heart was being torn out, as if I were the one bullying her.
Mrs. Mercer came over to scold me: “It’s just a game, did you have to go that far? Your narrow–mindedness makes you completely unworthy of being the Luna of our Mercer family.”
The sounds around me began to blur. Rowan’s face in my eyes was like an old photograph eroded by time–once the brightest presence in my heart, now only broken and pale.
Forget it.

Just twenty more days.
Let him do whatever he wants.
I scattered the cards on the table and rose to leave. As I shook my hand, I realized my palm was bleeding, blood dripping through my fingers.
I had dug my nails into my palm.
“Elara!”
He called out to me, his voice finally carrying a hint of panic.
He rose to follow, but Moira held him back tightly, crying even harder.
I walked out the door and set my phone to Do Not Disturb.
But his calls kept coming one after another. I laughed coldly and blocked him.
Then I sent a text message to Mrs. Mercer:
“1.5 billion, not a penny less, Otherwise, I’ll make you pay the price.”
As I drove away, the weather changed.
Rain fell steadily, my emotions as hazy as the mist outside the window.
In my daze, a yellow motorcycle suddenly darted out from ahead.
Startled, I slammed on the brakes.
Then-
“CRASH–1”
A violent impact hit the rear of my car. I was thrown forward, my head smashing hard against the steering wheel.
A tearing pain shot through my temple.
Everything went white.

Looking up, the rain–misted world before me was blood–red.
I pulled out a tissue to wipe the blood streaming from my temple. Rain and blood mixed together, an iron–rust smell creeping up my nostrils into my brain.
The yellow motorcycle was long gone, and my car–had been violently rear–ended by a Bentley.
“Knock knock-”
Someone tapped on my window.
