Jake stood at the entrance, his face contorted with rage like a husband who’d caught his wife cheating
“Get your hands off my wife,” he snarled.
His eyes went bright red as he rushed at Sebastian, swinging like crazy.
Sebastian dodged easily, then kicked back so hard that Jake crashing down the stairs.
As Jake crawled back up, and when he looked at me?
Desperate, hurt look all over his face. Like he was begging me to forgive him.
“Luna, stop this act. I know you’re just trying to get back at me. Marriage isn’t something to mess around with–it’s not too late to change your mind.”
“Keep playing this game and I’ll seriously lose it. Even if you come crawling back later, I won’t take you–I don’t want someone who’s been used.”
Sometimes I’m blown away by Jake’s confidence. Like, does he really think I’ll just love him no matter how badly he breaks my heart?
I snorted a sarcastic laugh.
“My biggest regret? Wasting five years loving a thief like you.”
At the word “thief,” Jake’s eyes turned toward Sebastian before he nervously stammered, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
I wasn’t letting him off the hook.
“You stole credit for saving my life when it was Sebastian who nearly died for me. You forced me into loving you. For five years, you got your kicks humiliating me and walking all over my feelings. I blame myself for falling for it. Now You’re free to be with Ivy now. Just leave me alone.”
“I’ll say it one more time: I don’t love you. Not now, not ever. From today on, my heart belongs to my husband only. Have some self–respect and get out of our lives.”
I turned away. Couldn’t stand to look at his face another second.
I thought that was the end of it.
But just three days later? Jake showed up again.
This time, he dragged a woman who looked like she’d been hit by a truck and threw her at my feet.
I had to stare for a moment before I recognized her–Ivy.
“Luna, you were right. I was a complete jerk who couldn’t see straight. I’ve thought about it, and everything was this slut’s fault. If she hadn’t seduced me, I would never have hurt you. She’s the one who ruined everything.”
Ivy seemed either brainwashed or beaten into giving up. She dragged herself forward on twisted, broken legs, bowing until her forehead hit the ground.
“Miss Shred, I’m trash. I seduced Mr. Griffin. Everything’s all my fault. He’s always truly loved you. Please, give him another chance.”
Her eyes were wild with fear as she spoke, curling into herself like a wounded animal, flinching at every movement like she expected someone to hit
her.
Jake kicked her aside like garbage, his confidence apparently restored. He pulled out two divorce certificates, flashing me this desperate, fake smile. “Luna, I’ve officially divorced Ivy. I’m single now. I don’t mind that you’ve been with someone else—just divorce Sebastian, and right away. What do you say?”
“Hell no!”
Watching his acting, fake display made me want to throw up.
