The entire auction, Ivy loved practically everything.
She kept pouring that she couldn’t afford the fancy stuff, while also putting on a brave face about, saying she’d work hard to buy them hertelt meibay
Jake couldn’t stand seeing her look so pitiful. With one grand gesture, he swept in and bid on
everything she wanted.
She squealed with delight, wrapping her arms around his neck and peppering him with kisses.
Meanwhile, I only raised my paddle once–for the final item, a men’s wristwatch.
It was navy blue with an understated yet sophisticated design.
The style would go really well with the man I’ve been picturing. I thought it would make a nice gift for when we signed our marriage license.
Just as I collected my gift and turned to leave, Jake called me over.
Behind him stood the auction organizer holding a stack of paperwork.
Confused, I asked, “Is something wrong?”
Jake shoved the paperwork at me in a condescending tone, “Don’t say I never gave you a chance. Pay for all these items, and I might let you have dinner with me tonight.”
I flipped through the pages–fifteen auction items in total.
Because Ivy had been squealing over everything, Jake had recklessly outbid everyone.
Items that weren’t worth $100 million ended up costing $2.5 billion.
When I didn’t immediately react, Ivy jumped in with her self–righteous lecture: “Miss Luna, relationships are about equality. As Jake’s girlfriend, you’ve been living off him, never spending a penny of your own. Now you won’t even buy him a few simple gifts? You say you love him, but you’re just selfish and fake.”
Jake, who had seemed slightly hesitant before, appeared convinced by her reasoning.

His expression turned entitled as he lowered his voice to me, “Ivy is, my wife now. I’m giving you a chance to get on our good side. If you make her unhappy, I won’t even let you be my side piece. Just pay up and be done with it.”
Looking at his smug, self–assured face, I nearly laughed from the absurdity.
Their claims about me “living off Jake” meant Ivy’s leftover cake, the extra porridge she couldn’t finish, and staying in my own house my father bought me–before they kicked me out after I caught them together, accusing me of being a “dirty–minded slut” for “misinterpreting” what I saw.
Five years I’d spent obsessing over those eyes, that face.
But the moment he abandoned me at the marriage registration office, that burning passion suddenly went cold.
Now as I looked at him, all I felt was disgust.
I only realized how blind I’d been, how slow to see the truth.
Five years wasted on this scumbag.
Seeing my silence, Jake impatiently grabbed the wristwatch from my hands.
Before I could stop him, he’d already ripped open the packaging and strapped it to his wrist.
“I’m wearing your cheap gift, happy now? Hurry up and pay. Stop playing games or I swear I’ll cut you off for good. Even if you come crawling back with $5 billion, I won’t spare you a single word.”
Jake’s friends piled on: “Luna, Jake’s already being nice to you. Tone it down. A woman playing hard to get is cute, but when she never stops? Annoying as hell.”

I glanced at the cheap egg shaped toy hanging from Jake’s phone–tacky and out of place.
I couldn’t help but laugh. “Yeah, really thoughtful. What was it, $1.99?”
Ivy acted like I’d torn her apart. Her eyes instantly welled up with tears as she hit her lip, playing the innocent victim.
“I may not be rich like you, but everything I own I bought with my own two hands. I’m cleaner than you’ll ever be. How dare you mock me?”
Jake hugged her protectively, glaring at me. “Apologize to Ivy! Now!”
I smiled, shoving the paperwork into her arms.
“You’re right. You’re clean, I’m dirty. So use your clean money to buy these gifts for your precious Jake.”
Ivy’s face turned ghostly white. She collapsed against Jake, looking like she might faint any second.
Jake was furious. He slapped me hard across the face.
“Luna, you’ve crossed the line. You dare bully Ivy like this? When your birthday gala comes, even if you get on your knees and beg, I will never agree to marry you!”
With one final glare, he scooped Ivy up and stormed
out.
