Amelia continued, her voice greving distant with memory.
*We wives were expected to endure it. To smile and pretend it was normal. We never complained, never spoke out. Not if we wanted to live.”
Her gaze shifted back to Freya. “I wish Nathanael had loved me the way Augustin loves Juno. The way Adryx loves you, my dear.”
Freya looked up, startled.
“Don’t let your past pain rob you of real love,” Amelia said gently. “He wants to help you, to ease your suffering. That’s all.”
“How do you know?” Freya whispered.
“His mother asked about you when she visited last week,” Amelia replied. “I only had wonderful things to say.”
Freya’s eyes widened, but she remained silent.
Amelia reached across the table and touched Freya’s palm. “You should avoid alcohol at tomorrow night’s event.”
Freya pulled her hand back as if burned. “What? Why?”
“I was a midwife before I became Luna Queen,” Amelia said, a small smile playing at her lips. “Your skin has a certain glow, your emotions are all over the place, you’re sensitive to smells, and you tire easily.”
My jaw dropped as I realized what she was implying. Freya looked equally shocked.
“I… I can’t be…” Freya stuttered.
“I have pregnancy tests in my room,” Scarlett offered immediately. When we all looked at her in surprise, she shrugged. “Bryloch and I have been trying.”
I felt a pang of something in my chest, a deep longing. Amelia’s gaze found mine.
“And what about you and my son? Any plans for little Levenstons?”
I blushed fiercely. “We’ve talked about it. We both want children.”
Amelia’s face softened. “Good. It’s been too long since this manor heard the patter of little feet. Children bring life to a home.”
Freya stood abruptly, her face pale. “Can… can you all come with me? To check?”
We followed her to Scarlett’s room, where Freya disappeared into the bathroom with the test. The minutes ticked by in tense silence until she emerged, tears streaming down her face.
“It’s positive,” she whispered.
The room erupted in excited squeals as Scarlett and I engulfed Freya in a group hug. Over their shoulders.
with a satisfied smile.

As we celebrated, I felt that pang again–stronger this time. While I was genuinely happy for Freya, I couldn’t help but think about my own empty womb. Freya had lost everything, just as I had, but now she was getting it all back and more. Her child would have a real father, not a weak Alpha who couldn’t fight for the woman he claimed to love.

Chapter 91
Later, as Amelia and I walked Back to the Alpha wing, we encountered a tearful flowen in the hallway. Amelia sighed deeply.
“Not again,” she muttered.
I quickly excused myself, having no desire to get involved in whatever was happening between Evanth and his girlfriend.
When I reached our room, it was blessedly empty. Augustin was still meetings, which gave me time to decompress before dinner.
I ran a hot bath, adding rose–scented, bath salts to help me relax. Tomorrow’s engagement party had my nerves on edge, and I needed to calm down. As I sank into the steaming water, my thought drifted, and my hand unconsciously moved to my flat stomach.
Would I ever feel life growing inside me? Would Augustin and I create our own family, with children who had his dark hair and my eyes? A tear slipped down my cheek before I could stop it.
The bedroom door opened, and I quickly wiped my face. A moment later, Augustin appeared in the bathroom doorway, his tired expression softening when he saw me.
“Room for one more?” he asked.
“Always,” I replied, forcing a smile.
He loosened his tie, watching me. “How was your day?”
