Chapter 33
Augustin’s POV
For the past two days, I’d been away from the manor with my Beta, Byloch, and my Gamma, Adryx. Seeing Juno in that dress had sparked my desire, and I’d decided she couldn’t wear anything transparent unless I was present.
We had some business to attend to in Moonshadow town. I wondered if Juno would miss me, though knowing her character, she’d never tell me if she did.
“Have you found out who orchestrated the attack?” I asked Adryx as we walked through the quiet streets.
Ever since my father Nathanael was killed during a trip, I’d been extra vigilant. My mother Amelia lived in the town that was attacked, so I had to be especially careful. I couldn’t afford to lose her my only remaining family.
“The town’s Alpha doesn’t know,” Adryx replied. “But he said the attackers seemed to come from the Forestvale direction.”
I frowned. “Forestvale is too far to launch an attack without trying to succeed.”
“Maybe it’s payback,” Bryloch suggested. “We just attacked Forestvale and took their loved ones. Perhaps they want their tributes
back.”
“If that’s the case, they’re fools,” I growled. Because if I send my men to attack again, I’ll flatten their territories and structures. I don’t take threats lightly.
Bryloch placed a hand on my shoulder. “Don’t be hasty. Forestvale already suffered greatly because of one Alpha’s mistake. We should investigate further.”
“We have their wives, sisters, and daughters,” he continued. “If necessary, we can get information from them.”
“And if they refuse to provide it?” I asked.
“We’ll torture it out of them,” Bryloch said matter–of–factly. “My mate Scarlett would sell out her husband’s secrets in a heartbeat. The man was a bastard who beat her wolf Nova.”
Adryx nodded. “What Quinn did to his Luna after finding his fated mate was monstrous.”
“Be careful with Juno,” Bryloch warned. “She won’t betray her husband’s secrets so easily.”
“I won’t lose my mind or neglect my duties because of a woman,” I assured them. “Though she fascinates me, if she protects my enemies, she becomes my enemy too.”
After our research, we returned to the manor. The conversation about Juno had made me less eager to see her. I realized that if I needed information from her–especially information she was unwilling to provide–I would need to slow things down.
As the evening fell, Bryloch approached me with a letter. “This arrived for Juno,” he said. “And, there’s one for you as well”
I took both envelopes, noticing they were from Matthew Harrington–Jung’s husband. I opened and read them, surprised by the tone. These were the words of a broken, grieving man.
Her final months with her husband hadn’t been pleasant, which relieved me. Otherwise, I might have sent her back. I won’t have a happily married woman on my hands. The humility and pain in the letter touched something in my soul. This was a letter of true
love.
Matthew was handing Juno over to me. Though not explicitly stated, he was agreeing to let me care for and love her. I didn’t need

his consent, but I appreciated it nonetheless.
She must have meant a great teal to him. Too bad he was too weak to protect her. According to the letter, Matthew had lost her before I took her away. Now I understood why she chose the unknown over continuing as his Luna.
The situation reminded me of Cassandra and why she’d left. The similarity burned.
I headed to Juno’s room that evening with her letter in hand. I was glad Matthew had given me some insight, but I had no plans to pursue her yet.
