Chapter 6
After I arrived at my destination, I washed up and was about find a well–rated restaurant
nearby.
Thus unintentionally, I opened Instagram.
And right away, I saw a new post Elise had made just two minutes ago.
She had posted two photos. One was the beautiful; luxurious wedding suite, and another showing that she had just updated Lucian’s contact name. She had changed it from his actual name to “Baby’s Dad.”
The caption read: “It’s a shame the baby wasn’t born yet and couldn’t witness the happiest day of Mommy and Daddy’s life. But we’ll be happy from now on. Looking forward to our future together, Lucian, my baby’s father.”
Seeing her post, my expression darkened. I was just about to close the app when I noticed
Lucian’s comment.
Just one word: “Okay.”
Even that single word felt like silent acknowledgment of the nickname.
“Baby’s dad?”
I stared at that phrase, feeling more and more ridiculous.
In that moment, I suddenly wondered that what would his expression be if he knew that we
once had a child too?
I clicked on his profile, intending to remove him from my block list.
But after thinking it over, I gave it up.
If you want to let go, let go completely.
I enjoyed a carefree week in Iceland before buying a return ticket.
But when I got home and had just reached my door, I ran into my neighbor Cathy, who was just heading out.

She looked surprised to see me and smiled. “You’re finally back. Your boyfriend was going crazy looking for you. He’s been waiting outside your door every day. He just left–if you hurry, you can still catch up with him.”
I shrugged indifferently. “We already broke up. I don’t have a boyfriend anymore. Next time
you see him, please call security for me. Thanks.”
After chatting with her for a moment, I opened the door and went inside.
Before I left, I had changed the locks, so Lucian hadn’t been able to get in.
I didn’t think much of what the neighbor said and went about my routine—washed up and
rested as usual.
The next day, I arrived at work feeling refreshed.
As soon as my closer coworkers saw me, they rushed over.
They glanced around, then whispered, “Weren’t you on leave for your wedding? Why did your husband come to the office to look for you? He even told me to contact him if I saw you. Did something happen between you two?”
While I was away, Lucian had been showing up at the company from time to time to find me.
When he couldn’t find me there, he’d wait outside my apartment after work.
Her words didn’t stir even the slightest ripple in my heart. With a calm expression, I replied, “I’m on annual leave, not a honeymoon. And just so you know–I’ve already broken up with him. From now on, we’re done. Completely.”
“What? But you two were so close before, always inseparable. Why did you break up all of a
sudden?”
But they were just my colleagues, so there was no need to go into personal details.
So I brushed it off. “We weren’t compatible.”
Maybe she sensed I didn’t want to talk about it further, so she didn’t press.
After work, I had just packed my things and stepped out of the office when I saw Lucian’s car parked by the roadside.

I ignored it and walked in the opposite direction.
But then I heard a familiar voice behind me.
“Solene!”
Lucian called out anxiously, quickly getting out of the car to chase after me.
When he saw my face, a wave of joy flashed across his features–as if he had just found something he thought he had lost forever. “Solene, you’re finally back. I missed you so much.”
I didn’t meet his gaze and looked past him.
That’s when I saw Elise sitting in the passenger seat of his car. She gave me a small smile.
But if you looked closely, you’d see the provocation behind it.
Now that everyone knew they were married, they didn’t even bother pretending anymore?
