Wendy’s POV
I lay in bed, but I was somehow unable to sleep.
“What’s wrong?” Charlie asked.
“I still can’t reach Viola. Her phone is off, and I’m worried.”
Charlie shook his head. “She’s probably just mad. She’s not answering calls or messages, and I tried to mind–link her, but she
ignored me. That girl has such a temper!”
He thought Viola was just angry and avoiding us on purpose, but I had a bad feeling—a feeling I couldn’t shake.
In the past, even if Viola was upset, she wouldn’t go more than a day without contacting us. She would always call or respond,
even if she had turned off her phone. She would never block the link between us–we were the ones who did.
But this time, it felt different.
I remembered when Viola had left a few days ago, right after she had Jane sign the transfer papers. We had all been so elated, until
we realized she hadn’t just stepped out.
She had vanished.
It wasn’t like her at all.
What if something had happened to her?
“How long has it been since we last saw Viola?” My hands started to sweat with worry.
Charlie thought for a moment. “Four days.”
My heart sank, and the panic inside me grew stronger.
The next morning, I went straight to the hospital.
“Jane, has Viola been here?” I asked as soon as I walked into her room.
