Chapter 10
Everyone thought Deke had snapped and beaten Anita half to death. No one dared go in,
afraid he’d turn on them next.
Finally, a security guard, gripping a baton, stepped inside.
Seconds later, panicked shouts rang out.
“Doctor! Doctor! Hurry–he’s messed up too! Covered in blood!”
Hearing that, I finally relaxed. My little scheme had played out perfectly.
I squeezed in with the crowd and spotted Deke curled up in the corner, drenched in blood.
An IV stand, also smeared red, lay beside him. Guess Anita, the world’s strongest pregnant woman, hadn’t held back.
I just watched, detached.
As doctors and nurses hauled him out, blood still dripped from the back of his head.
Gruesome.
But I didn’t leave. I sat in the corridor, waiting for updates on all three of them.
First, news about Cassandra–her blood pressure had skyrocketed, and she was in critical condition. A stroke could hit any second. But with Deke unconscious, there was no one to sign the surgery consent form.

Doctors and nurses rushed around, sweating bullets. Deke’s family was single–handedly boosting the hospital’s stats today.
Half an hour later, Deke came to. Mild concussion–nothing major.
First thing he did? Sign the form. Second thing? Stumble out of bed, head wrapped in bandages, yelling for revenge.
“That wretch caused my mom’s stroke! I’m gonna kill her! If anything happens to my

mom, I swear-”
Before he could finish, his legs gave out, and he hit the floor.
I slipped away to the maternity ward.
Anita had been in surgery for over two hours. No word yet. Whether the baby made it? Anyone’s guess.

A blood–soaked nurse burst out of the operating room, frantic.
“It’s bad—she’s hemorrhaging! We need emergency surgery! Where’s her family?”
Feigning indifference, I nodded behind me.
“Her husband’s in Room 208. Just woke up.”
The nurse bolted.
But Deke? He flat–out refused to sign.
“We’re already getting divorced! Whether she lives or dies isn’t my problem! My mom’s in this state because of her–she deserves it!”
Typical. He had feelings for Anita, sure, but Cassandra always came first.
After a long standoff with the medical staff, he finally caved and signed. But by then, it was too late.
When they wheeled Anita out, she was ghostly pale. The doctors didn’t sugarcoat it–her abdomen took too much damage.
The baby was gone.
Her uterus had to be removed.
Deke never went to see her. He just sat there, blank–eyed, waiting on Cassandra.

I didn’t look away until Anita was stable in a regular ward.
All three of them had gotten exactly what they deserved.
