I shrugged, “Like I said, you’re incredibly sexy and beautiful. It’s not so hard to fall in love with you. All I want is to make our marriage real.”
“Awwww!” my mom gushed happily as she stared at Jasmine, “Say yes, darling. I know you have your suspicions about love but trust me you both can work toward it.”
“But we’ve only been together for a couple of weeks,” Jasmine said.
I shrugged, “I understand, Jasmine, if you don’t want to be with me then that’s fine. Mom already knows the truth so we can end it now.”
Jasmine looked unsure, “I don’t know everything is happening so fast and I just got out of a relationship after ten years. I didn’t think I’d have to –”
“Breathe, Jasmine,” I stopped her, placing a hand on her shoulders.
Her face was flushed and her eyes were wide with worry. I could see that she was genuinely terrified.
“I’m sorry,” she apologized, as a tear rolled down her cheeks.
“It’s alright,” I smiled gently, wiping off the tears. “Falling in love can be scary and after what you’ve been through I can understand your skepticism.”
My mom placed a soothing hand on Jasmine, “I’m sorry you had to do this because of me.”
Jasmine laughed shakily, “It was supposed to be a simple three months job so you’d die happily. I’m sorry I messed things up.”
“I understand if you’d want to quit, Jasmine, I can see how terrified you are.”
Jasmine shook her head, “I can’t leave. Not when your mom… she’s going to be so heartbroken.” My mom shook her head, “On the contrary, darling, I only wanted my son to fall in love again which he did. If you’re not ready and you’d like to end it, I understand.”
Jasmine stared at me and I nodded, “See, Mom is in agreement.”
“But what about your health?” she asked my mom.
My mom smiled shakily and I frowned, “What did you do, Mom?”
Mom sighed, “Actually, the truth is that I’m not really sick. I’ve been faking it so you’d settle down. with someone.”
My eyes widened in shock as I stared at her, “What?”
