Chapter 13
Valerie’s POV
“I have contacted some powerful witches, they can perform a very complex ritual to cure the moonfire curse on your sister.” Dante informed me, during dinner, the day after Jerry’s parents
came to visit.
I released a sigh of relief. “Thank you so much, Dante. I am so grateful.” I thanked him profusely.
He shook his head, dismissing my thanks, trying to downplay what he had done.
“It’s alright, I’m just glad I could help.”
Even with everything that Nancy had done, she was still my sister.
That night while I was about to sleep, my phone rang. It was Nancy. What was she calling me about? I reluctantly picked the call.
“Hello sis,” She greeted with excitement in her voice. I didn’t reply.
“Come on, sis.” She groaned, “Don’t tell me you’re still mad about my incident with Jerry. It was a
mistake.”
I still kept quiet. She sighed in frustration. “Look, Jerry and I are getting married in two weeks. You’ve found another Alpha for yourself, and you’ll be getting married soon also. So what are you still angry about?” She asked with mockery in her voice.
I clenched my jaw in frustration, but I didn’t reply to her. Eventually, she got tired of taunting and mocking me, and finally ended the call. Here I was, trying to find help for her, but she was teasing and taunting me.
Astrid called me the next day. “I have big news,” she announced, and then she paused dramatically.
I rolled my eyes in exasperation. “Come on, Astrid. Quit the suspense.”
She chuckled. “Fine, here it is. “Your sister’s curse was fake.”
I paused, and shock coursed through me at her words. “What?”
“Yeah, you heard me. Nancy has been faking the moonfire curse for years.”
My ears began to ring as I shook my head in disbelief, forgetting that Astrid couldn’t see me from the phone. “No, no, it can’t be.” I mumbled in shock to myself.
“It’s the truth, Valerie.” She told me.
When the witches started to prepare the things for the ritual, they began asking Nancy questions – simple questions that anyone with the moonfire curse should be able answer easily, but Nancy couldn’t answer them, it started looking suspicious, so the witches decided to do a form of checkup to make sure she really had the moonfire curse.
To everyone’s astonishment, she didn’t have the moonfire curse, never did. She had been faking it for years. Jerry was mad.
“Why?!” He roared, shaking her roughly, “Why?!”
“I’m sorry,” She cried, “I’m so sorry, I didn’t know it would reach this extent!”

She released a sigh. “It’s just that when we were younger, it was so hard to get our parents‘ attention from Valerie. She was so perfect, and it felt like I was living in her shadow, never seen. And then one day, I pretended to be ill with an unknown disease and all the attention was suddenly on me. It gave me an idea, and since then, I had been pretending to be cursed with the moonfire curse because it got me all the attention.” She admitted.
Everyone was in shock at her words. It was unbelievable that someone could think of doing something like that, just for attention. It was then everyone realized that she had just been trying to steal Jerry from me, all those while.
“How could you?!” Jerry bellowed, grabbing her roughly by her hair.
“I have always wanted you, Jerry, and now that Valerie is out of the way, we can be together, no limitations, no restrictions. Just like it was supposed to be.”
Jerry slapped her so hard that her lips began bleeding, and he pushed her away.
“Want you?! I never wanted you! I was stupid to fall for your lies!” He bellowed. “We will never be together! You are nothing compared to Valerie! You have no skill! No talent! Nothing!” He roared.
