Ryan hadn’t expected Vincent to piece things together that fast. His brows tightened, but he didn’t. answer right away. Instead, he said coldly, “Now you suddenly remember you and Gabby are husband. and wife? Where was that energy when you let her fall into the ocean to save Claire? Regret doesn’t count for much now, does it–you think?”
He let out a bitter laugh, “You should just go back to Harborbrook and stay with your precious Claire.”
Vincent greeted his teeth, swallowing back the guilt, “Gabby and I are still legally married. I have every right to find her.”
Ryan rolled his eyes, his tone sharp, “Being legally married doesn’t give you a free pass to come to Bellton. And Let’s be real–she ended up in the ocean because of you. Do you really think she wants to see you? Even if you did find her, what then? You think you can just show up and everything’s forgiven?”
Every word hit Vincent like a punch to the gut. His face went pale, and his fists clenched so tight his knuckles went white. He opened his mouth to speak, but nothing came out.
Deep down, he knew Gabby disappeared because of him.
In that moment when it mattered most, he had chosen Claire–and in doing so, had thrown Gabby away like she didn’t matter.
Ever since then, he hadn’t slept a single peaceful night. Every time he closed his eyes, he saw her falling into the ocean, her face frozen in heartbreak.
Ryan’s words only twisted the knife deeper.
He covered his face, overwhelmed. The scene by the ocean haunted him. His eyes turned red. Tears fell, silent and steady.
Ryan looked at him, expression cold, “What, crying now? If you truly cared about Gabby, you never
would’ve chosen Claire.”
Vincent wiped his tears, jaw clenched tight. He lifted his head in pain and desperation, and fixed his bloodshot eyes on Ryan.
Suddenly, he stepped forward and grabbed Ryan by the collar, nearly losing control as he shouted, “You’re calling me out, fine. I messed up. I know that. I’ll regret it for the rest of my life.” His voice cracked with rage and pain, “But what about you? Haven’t you been acting strange lately too?”
“The law firm’s headquarters is in Harborbrook, but you keep popping up in Bellton like it’s your second home. Now you’ve even got people blocking me at the airport? What the hell are you doing?”
Vincent’s eyes narrowed, voice rising with every word. He pointed at the men in black glaring at him from all sides, and growled, “They’re your people, aren’t they? Why are you so afraid of me being in Bellton? What are you hiding here? Is Gabby with you?”
Ryan’s face darkened, jaw tight. Off to the side, Finn finally snapped. Seeing Vincent grab Ryan like that, he stepped forward, voice hard. “Hands off Mr. Hudson! Touch him again, and I swear, you’ll regret it!”
But Ryan calmly lifted a hand, signaling Finn to back off. Then, with a slow, cold stare, Ryan shoved

Vincent’s hand away and fixed his collar like nothing happened. His voice was calm, but it carried
weight.
“Vincent, you’d better go back to Harborbrook. Go back to Claire, and I’ll forget this never happened. Otherwise, stay here and I promise–I’ve got a hundred ways to make sure you never set foot in Belton again.”
Vincent was shaking now, practically vibrating with rage. His breathing was rough, his eyes bloodshot.
“Uncle Ryan, you’re only this desperate to get rid of me because you’ve got something to hide, haven’t you?” he growled. “Where are you hiding Gabby? Give her back to me! She’s my wife–I have the right to see her!”
