Chapter 162 Summer Loved Him Fiercely
Gabrielle
I was lying in bed, but my mind was a mess. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t quiet the noise in my
head.
Why had Summer come all the way here just to see Ryan? What was so important?
I had already promised myself I’d trust him. I told myself not to doubt him again. And yet… her words kept echoing like tiny needles, pricking at the edges of my thoughts.
She said Vincent was my husband. Vincent…
I knew Summer had feelings for Ryan–feelings she had no business holding onto. Everything she said could be a total lie. So why couldn’t I stop thinking about it?
I wanted to believe Ryan. I believed him.
But that name–Vincent–it was like a splinter I couldn’t get rid of.
The more I thought about it, the worse the ache in my head became.
I sighed and pushed open the door, hoping some fresh air might clear my thoughts. Out in the hallway,
I spotted Nina, one of the housekeepers, arranging decorations.
I walked over, keeping my tone casual, “Nina, is Mr. Hudson still talking to Ms. Miller?”
Nina looked up and blinked, then shook her head. “I’m not really sure, ma’am, but Ms. Miller was pretty insistent when she showed up. She made it clear she wasn’t leaving until she saw him.”
She let out a small, helpless laugh. “Honestly, Ms. Miller’s been like that for years. The colder Mr. Hudson is, the more persistent she becomes. She keeps finding excuses to show up–it’s not the first time.”
A strange, uncomfortable flutter stirred in my chest.
Yeah, everyone knew how much Summer adored Ryan. She made sure the whole world knew it. But Ryan… how did he really feel?
“Were Summer and Ryan ever… close? Before?” I asked, unable to stop myself.
Nina hesitated, thinking for a while, and said, “Not exactly close. But Ms. Miller’s always been the darling of the Miller family. And Mr. Hudson’s mother absolutely adored her. She always believed they were the perfect match. She decided years ago that Summer would be her daughter–in–law.”
My fingers curled into the sleeve of my shirt. I knew that Ryan had called off the engagement, but still… it stung.
Even if he never returned her feelings, what about his family? Were they all rooting for Summer to be the one beside him?
And me? I was his actual wife… yet I hadn’t met a single member of his family.
Before I could dwell on it further, Nina suddenly gasped. “Mr. Hudson is coming!”
I looked up. Ryan was walking toward us with that calm, steady stride of his. His usual gentle smile

rested easily on his handsome face.
I raised an eyebrow, giving him a playful look. “All done talking? Hope you two had a fun little chat”
He stopped in front of me, reached out, and gave my nose a light pinch. A soft chuckle escaped his lips. “There wasn’t much to talk about. She just loves creating drama. From now on, I’ll have the staff keep her out. She’s not welcome here anymore.”
I let out a laugh, teasing him. “You sure about that? Doesn’t your heart ache, turning away Ms. Miller- your mom’s favorite future daughter–in–law?”
His smile faltered just slightly, and his eyes flicked over to Nina.
Nina’s face instantly went pale. She gave an awkward laugh and said quickly, “Mr. Hudson, ma’am–1, uh–I just remembered something I need to do. I’ll be going!”
She disappeared down the hall in record time, leaving a trail of awkward silence behind.
I burst out laughing at her not–so–subtle escape.
But once the laughter faded, a strange feeling crept into my chest–unsettling and unshakable.
Ryan ruffled my hair, his voice carrying a trace of resignation. “What did Nina tell you?”
I shrugged, trying to sound casual. “Nothing much. We were just chatting. Don’t blame her–I asked.”
“Really?” he muttered, clearly unconvinced.
I looked up at him, giving a sly little smile. “Tell me the truth, Ryan… did I ruin a perfect love story?”
