Chapter 128 Never Lie To Me

Ryan’s gaze darkened as he studied me, as if carefully weighing my words

Why are you suddenly so eager to go back to the Hudson estate? His voice was low, laced with quiet scrutiny

I met his eyes without hesitation, I’m your wife. Isn’t it natural for me to visit your family?”

His lips pressed into a thin line, and for a moment, something unreadable flickered in his eyesan emotion too complex to name. He looked like he wanted to say something, but in the end, he just gave a subtle nod, offering no explanation

My heart clenched slightly. A sense of unease crept in

I could tellRyan didn’t want to take me back to Harborbrook. And more than that, he especially didn’t want to bring me to the Hudson estate

I didn’t know why. But deep down, I had a feeling this had everything to do with Vincent

That name lingered in my mind like a shadow, refusing to fade

I had tried beforemore than onceto get Ryan to tell me about my connection with Vincent, but he never gave me a straight answer. Instead, he always avoided the topic

And I never pushed him. I wanted to believe that if Ryan was keeping something from me, it was for my own good

But I refused to live in dark

Somethingsome unseen forcewas pushing me forward, leading me toward the truth

And I had a feeling that once I set foot in Harborbrook, every secret would finally come to light

We clinked our glasses again, and I could tell Ryan was already a little tipsy

I hadn’t had a single drop, yet I still felt lightheadedmaybe it was the atmosphere, so warm, and, so

intoxicating

Resting my chin on my hand, I gazed at him quietly, a strange tenderness stirring deep inside me

Can you tell me more about my grandma?I asked softly. I miss her so much-

Ryan went quiet for a few seconds, his expression softening

She loved you more than anything,he murmured, his eyes distant, lost in memory, When she got sick, you took care of her. You were there until the very endyou were the one who said goodbye.”

A lump formed in my throat, my vision blurring

I had thought I had simply lost my memories. But now I realizedin those forgotten years, I had loved and grieved with everything I had

And now, the person I loved the most was gone

Chapter 126 Never Lie To Me

Choking back a sob, I buried my face against Ryan’s chest, my voice muffled against him, Pyan, I wish my family was still here-

He held me tighter, his warm lips brushing my temple. His voice was calm, steadyan anchor in the

storm

Gabby, I am your family. From now on, you’ll never be alone again.”

A sharp ache shot through my chest, my emotions tangling into something overwhelming

He was right. Right now, Ryan was the only person I had left

I sniffled softly, closing my eyes as I leaned into him, seeking confort in his embrace

You’re the only person I can trust now-I whispered. I just hope you’ll never lie to me. That we’ll always be honest with each other.”

Ryan’s body tensed. His gaze darkened, unreadable

For a long moment, he said nothing

Then, without a word, he pulled me closer, his arms tightening around me. It felt like a promise. Or maybe a way to hide something

I didn’t question him

I just stayed there, wrapped in his warmth, letting myself believefor nowthat everything was okay

Dinner ended, and we left the restaurant

Ryan glanced at me with a gentle smile, Do you want to go for a walk?”

The faint scent of alcohol clung on him, and I worried he had drunk too much. Shaking my head, I replied, Let’s just go home and rest.”

The driver took us back to the villa

Once inside, I insisted on helping him to the bedroom

Gabby, I’m not drunk,Ryan said, dead serious

I shot him a skeptical look. Yeah, sure. I don’t believe you.Hooking my arm around his, I stubbornly led him toward the room

But just as we stepped inside, Ryan suddenly lost his balancefalling straight onto the bed

And worse, he took me down with him

Ah!I gasped as I landed right on top of him, my nose smushed against his firm chest

The scent of pinewood and whiskey filled my senses, wrapping around me like a spell

Silence settled between us, thick and heavy. The air shifted, charged with something unspoken

And in that momentthe tension became impossible to ignore
