Chapter 13
Chapter 13
I stared at the flashing caller ID, feeling a dull ache in my chest.
What was once pure and beautiful had rotted into something foul, like garbage left out in the son
Hard to believe the boy who once looked at me like I was his whole world was now juggling a
mistress and a wife like some kind of sick joke.
I picked up without saying a word.
His voice was as smooth as ever, dripping with affection.
“Sarah, the deal went great. I’ll be back three days early.”
“I got you a present. You’re gonna love it.”
The “present” Michael was talking about was a luxury yacht.
Top–of–the–line interiors, everything meticulously designed.
I’d heard about this yacht.
Two months ago, he spent a fortune on it.
But I hadn’t known back then.
The only reason I found out was because Michael let it slip one night when he was drunk.
I thought he was planning some kind of surprise for me.
Turns out, I was the fool.
That yacht was never meant for me.
I glanced down at the pictures Hailey had sent.
She must have taken them in secret–Michael from every angle, unaware.

“Michael,” I said softly.
“You told me you sent Hailey out of Verona City. Did she leave?”
“She did.”
“Oh?” I pulled out another picture.
“Where did she go?”
“Not sure. Jake handled it. I gave her some money,”
“Probably went back home.”
Michael hesitated for a long time.
“Sarah, don’t tell me you don’t trust me?”
“We’ve been married for years.”
“You should know me better than that.”
“I said she’s gone, and she won’t be back.”
“She had a tough life, Sarah. Just… don’t make things harder for her.”
I stayed silent.
He sighed.
“You can forget about the divorce.”
“You know how this works–if I don’t agree, it’s never happening.”
I hung up.
Then, I neatly organized the photos Hailey had sent.
Before I could even call her, my phone rang.
With just a little prodding, a few well–placed barbs, Hailey spilled everything.

How they met, which hotels they stayed at.
She even sent me a couple of short videos to rub it in.
I chuckled as I saved every last piece of evidence.
The call? Recorded.
