Chapter 23
Chapter 23
The night before the wedding, Celia sent Matthew away, citing the tradition that the bride and groom should not meet before the wedding.
Matthew, feeling wronged, spoke through the door, “Baby, we’ll still be sleeping together tomorrow. Just let me in.”
Celia locked the door.
“No, it’s bad luck. If I let you in, it’s not auspicious.”
Hearing this, Matthew immediately agreed.
“I just really miss you, what should I do?”
Celia rolled her eyes helplessly. “Matthew, we’ve been apart for less than five minutes!”
Celia never expected that Matthew would be such a love–struck and clingy person.
After Matthew reluctantly left, Celia lay on the bed, unable to sleep.
Tomorrow, she was marrying Matthew.
Though the time they had spent together had been pleasant, marriage was a whole different matter than dating, and she still felt uneasy.
Moreover, after being let down by Louie, she had no face to ask her parents for forgiveness.
The thought that her family’s table would still be empty at tomorrow’s wedding.
Without the blessing of her relatives and friends, her heart felt sour.
She repeatedly told herself to be content – marrying Matthew was a blessing.
At some point, she fell asleep.
In her dream, everything was white.

A figure stood a short distance away, holding flowers.
“Matthew.”
Celia ran toward him in her wedding dress.
The figure suddenly looked up – it was Louie.
“Ah!”
Celia woke up in a panic, drenched in cold sweat.
The sun had already risen, and the car to pick her up was waiting outside.
After getting her makeup done and putting on the mermaid wedding dress, everyone around her couldn’t help but exclaim, “Wow!”
The makeup artist complimented her without holding back, “Mrs. Curtis is the most beautiful bride I’ve ever seen.”
Her friends teased, “No wonder Matthew was here before dawn. He couldn’t wait. If it were me, I’d probably climb through the window at night.”
Celia appeared in front of Matthew, who felt as if he were frozen in place, unable to move.
The wedding was scheduled for 10:58, a time that Matthew had personally arranged based on a
fortune–teller’s advice.
“Auspicious time and place, for a hundred years of happiness.”
Matthew was beaming and handed the fortune teller a check for $500,000.
Celia was both amused and exasperated.
“I’m starting to doubt that such a gullible Matthew is actually the CEO of the Curtis Group.”
This joke sent everyone into laughter.
Outside the wedding hotel, Louie arrived as promised, dressed in a black suit.
He had specially styled his hair into an oily slick–back and placed the engagement ring in his pocket.

“Celia might come to the wedding too. When I see her, I’ll propose to her again.”
A few days before his one month “cooling off period” with Thalia ended, Louie was eager to finalize
his divorce and immediately marry Celia once he received the divorce certificate.
After showing his invitation, Louie successfully entered the venue.
The host announced the start of the ceremony, and Matthew appeared on stage.
“Thank you all for attending my wedding, I am deeply grateful.”
Louie flashed a devilish smile.
Confidently, he made his way through the crowd and to the front.
Louie grabbed the microphone from the host. “Hello, can everyone hear me?”
Matthew waved for the host to step down.
He turned to look at Louie, who was acting like a clown, jumping around. “Excuse me, sir, what do
you want?”
Louie straightened his tie and cleared his throat.
“I haven’t introduced myself yet. I am Louie, the CEO of the well–known Morris Group in San Francisco, a distinguished young entrepreneur of the city.”
The audience fell silent.
Matthew led the applause, and only then did the audience offer scattered claps.
Matthew made a “please continue” gesture.
