Thalia screamed sharply.
Celia instinctively reached out to try and grab her, but only brushed against the edge of her clothes, pulling off a button.
Just then, Louie emerged from around the corner, and hearing the sound, ran over.
In front of him were Thalia rolling down the stairs and Celia, still in the position of reaching out her hand.
Louie shoved Celia aside and rushed down to scoop up Thalia.
“Thalia, wake up!”
Thalia grabbed Louie’s arm with a pained expression. “Louie, don’t blame Celia. She just doesn’t like Jenna that much. I only said a few words, and I made her angry.”
After speaking, she fainted in his arms.
Louie suddenly turned his head, glaring fiercely at Celia, who had been shoved to the ground.
“Celia, you know I hate people who say one thing to your face and something else behind your back.”
Louie carried Thalia and rushed to the hospital. “You’d better pray Thalia is okay, or don’t blame me for not being merciful.”
Hearing the car start downstairs, Celia looked down at her palm, which had been scratched by
stones.
Blood was oozing out.
Hearing the noise, the director came over and helped Celia up, seemingly wanting to say something but hesitating.
Celia took off the scarf around her neck and wrapped it around her wound: “Director, I’ve been

volunteering here for many years, and I thought we were friends.”
It was lunchtime at the orphanage, and the children were rushing out.
Looking at Jenna skipping around, the director sighed.
“Jenna really is lucky, she has such a strong connection with Mr. Morris. They seem like father and
daughter.”
On the way back, Celia dialed a phone number she hadn’t called in five years from her contacts.
The phone barely rang once before being answered.
Matthew Curtis’s lazy and magnetic voice came through. “Miss Flores, how kind of you to call me?”
Celia ignored the sarcasm in his words and got straight to the point.
“Matthew, is our engagement still valid?”
Matthew chuckled awkwardly on the other end. “Miss Flores, are you joking? You’re married now. Looking for a boy toy, I think you’ve come to the wrong person.”
Celia patiently repeated, “I’m only asking if the engagement is still valid.”
Matthew suddenly leaned closer to the microphone. “Miss Flores, are you planning to have an affair
with me?”
Celia’s patience was wearing thin. “Forget I ever called you.”
She hung up the phone and parked her car by the roadside.
Her phone displayed a message from Thalia.
“Celia, what’s it like being a fake wife for five years?”
“Guess what Louie is doing right now?”
A GIF followed.
Louie, in a high–end suit, was crouching down, tying Thalia’s shoelace.

The cufflinks he was wearing were the ones Celia had picked out for him.
The blood that had stopped in her palm started to ooze again as she clenched the phone tightly.
Suddenly, the phone rang again–it was Matthew.
“Miss Flores, you really do have a short temper. If you had been more careful, you would’ve realized your marriage certificate was fake by now, right?”
Matthew really had his fingers in everything; in just three minutes, he had figured out that Celia had only discovered the truth after five years,
Celia gripped the phone tightly. “Mr. Curtis, I didn’t call to listen to your mocking. I just want to ask…
Matthew interrupted her in a low voice, “It’s valid, always valid.”
Celia was confused. “What?”
Matthew, unusually serious, replied, “I mean, our engagement is always valid. As long as you want, I’m always ready to become your legal husband, Celia.”
Celia remained silent for a long time before speaking.
“I have some matters to handle in the San Francisco. Let’s meet at the NYC Marriage Bureau in the on Monday.”
Matthew, now back to his playful tone, replied, “Whoever doesn’t show up is a little dog.”
Celia muttered “Childish” under her breath before hanging up the phone.
