I didn’t need to turn around to know who it was. Claire and Vincent–the cheating scumbag and his
mistress.
“These two really are like bad pennies,” I gave Ryan a wry smile. “I thought their date was over. Didn’t expect to run into them now.”
“If you don’t feel like listening to barking dogs, we can take another route.” Ryan smirked, grabbing my wrist and leading me toward another exit.
His warm hand on my wrist sent a spark coursing through me, spreading heat everywhere.
I tried hard to control my runaway thoughts.
Damn it, I’m not some lovesick teenager anymore. After everything I’ve been through, why does a simple touch have me blushing like this?
We thought we could avoid another confrontation, but Claire dragged Vincent over and cut us off.
“Gabby, don’t you know this is a couples‘ restaurant? Dating Vincent’s uncle here–what does that make Vincent look like?” Claire sneered, her tone dripping with condescension.
Looking at their linked arms and the lipstick smudged on Vincent’s collar, I couldn’t help but feel a twinge of irony.
“So what if it’s a couples‘ restaurant?” I raised an eyebrow and kept my voice cool. “If a homewrecker like you can date someone else’s husband here, why can’t I show up?”
Since Claire wanted a fight, I wasn’t going to play nice.
“You! Who are you calling a homewrecker? Watch your mouth–I’ve told you, I’m not a homewrecker!” Claire yelled, her eyes bulging. Gone was her usual helpless, innocent act.
“What do you call a woman who seduces someone’s husband, then? And even had his kid? That’s next–level disgusting.” My voice was sharp, my disgust barely hidden. “Parading around town on Vincent’s arm, afraid people won’t realize you’re his mistress?”
I smirked. “Vincent’s trash, Claire. You’re welcome for taking him off my hands. Seriously, thanks for
the favor.”
Getting all of that off my chest was the most satisfying thing I’d felt in ages.
“You–calling me a homewrecker was bad enough! But how dare you call Vince trash?” Claire’s face turned crimson as she jabbed a finger at me.
“What else do you call a cheating man if not trash?” I shot back, my gaze cutting to Vincent. My tone was icy and sarcastic.
“Honestly, you two deserve each other. Trash belongs in the trash can.” I unleashed my fury on them, finally getting some revenge.
Of course, this was nothing. If I proved Claire was behind Toby’s kidnapping, I’d make sure she understood what it felt like to be thrown into hell!
Ryan leaned in close and murmured, “Gabrielle, I didn’t know you could be so fierce.”

A twinge of embarrassment hit me. ‘Did I come on too strong? Had I scared him?‘
“Vince, Gabby’s being so mean-” Claire whined, reverting to her usual pitiful act as she clung to Vi
ncent’s arm.
With her pitiful expression, I thought Vincent would defend her again. Surprisingly, Vincent just glanced at me and told Claire, “Why did you provoke her first? You brought this on yourself.”
Claire was stunned, staring at Vincent in shock.
Vincent didn’t bother saying more to her. Instead, he stormed over to Ryan and me, glaring like he was trying to burn holes in me. “Gabrielle, you’ve always denied having a relationship with Uncle Ryan! Now I’ve caught you two dating here – what do you have to say for yourself?”
Hearing his accusatory tone, anger rose in my chest. I don’t know where I got the courage, but I suddenly grabbed Ryan’s hand, interlacing our fingers.
I held up our joined hands deliberately, shooting Vincent a defiant look, “Yes! We are dating, we’re together! Happy now? What are you going to do about it?”
