Chapter 68 Discussing Divorce Terms
O M
I was stunned and instinctively glanced at Ryan, who was standing beside me. He looked just as shocked, like he couldn’t believe it either.
Vincent had been dead set against the idea of a divorce before. I’d even started gathering evidence of his affair with Claire and had asked Ryan to find a lawyer to help with the case. We’d been stuck with this for so long.
And now, just like that, he was agreeing to the divorce?
I felt disoriented, like I’d been hit with something I couldn’t process.
“Are you serious?” I asked, narrowing my eyes as I scanned Vincent’s face. “You’re not joking, right?
“I’m serious,” Vincent said with a firm. “Gabrielle, let’s get divorced, I’ll draft the divorce agreement soon and bring it for you to sign.”
“There’s no need to hire lawyers or drag this through court. You gave birth to Toby and put in a lot of effort these past years, so I’ll compensate you with ten percent of Hudson Enterprises‘ shares.”
“Besides that, I’ll give you a villa. This apartment is already yours–it was Grandpa’s gift to you, so naturally, it says that way.”
I pressed my lips together as I watched him divide up our life together in just a few sentences. My emotions were all over the place.
Years of marriage were coming to an end, just like that.
I felt relieved, but at the same time, sadness crept in. Sad for the version of me that had once loved him so much, and sad for the broken pieces of our marriage.
“Do you have any objections to the way I’ve divided the assets?” Vincent asked, his tone calm now as he looked at me.
“No, no objections,” I said, shaking my head, my throat tightening as I spoke.
Ten percent of Hudson Enterprises–those shares were worth billions. Vincent was being usually
generous.
“Good then.” His smile was faint, a stark contrast to his earlier outburst. “I admit I was out of line before. Since we’re getting divorced, I won’t interfere with your business anymore.”
“But Gabrielle, one thing–keep your distance from Uncle Ryan.
“Ryan and I are just friends. Who I’m friends with is none of your business, no need for your concern,” I said, rubbing my temples, suddenly feeling extremely tired. “If that’s all, you can leave now.”
I never imagined we’d settle our divorce terms so quickly.
No screaming matches, no melodramatic tears–just calm, like we were discussing the weather.
“Vincent, does Grandpa know about you’ve agreed to the divorce?” Ryan asked suddenly.
His question caught me off guard–Grandpa was elderly, I wasn’t sure how he’d handle the news-
I thought of how he’d held my hand, pleading with me over and over not to divorce Vincent, my chest

“I haven’t told him yet,” Vincent admitted with a sigh. “You know how stubborn he is. I’m planning to wait and break it to him when the timing’s better.”
“That’s probably best. Telling him now might be too much,” I nodded in agreement. “Let’s keep it from Grandpa as long as we can.”
Though keeping it from Grandpa forever wasn’t a solution, there really wasn’t a better option right now.
“There’s something else–Toby still hasn’t been found,” Ryan added, his voice steady.
Right, Toby. I wouldn’t let Vincent take custody of him.
“I’ll keep looking for Toby. Once he’s found, Gabrielle can have custody, is that okay?” Vincent said, frowning as his face darkened.
The way he gave up custody so quickly made something clicked in my mind. I smirked, “Vincent, did you agree to this divorce and give up Toby’s custody because of Claire? And the baby she’s carrying?”
