Ryan suddenly passed the menu to Drake, his expression unreadable. Clearing his throat, he said, “Let’s order first.”
“Ah, yes, ordering.” Drake nodded, quickly, offering me an apologetic smile, “Sorry, Ms. May, I didn’t mean to say that earlier.”
“It’s fine,” I replied, shaking my head, though I couldn’t help feeling unsettled.
Still, the idea of remarrying Vincent? That was a joke. Impossible. Not
in this lifetime.
“You guys take a look,” Drake flipped through the menu briefly before
handing it back to Ryan.
“I’ll just order the basics,” Ryan announced, snapping the menu shut. Then, he called the server over. “We’ll have the Wagyu beef soup, black truffle pancakes, Argentinian red prawns, sea urchin baked with
Parmesan, and butter–poached lobster.”
“Yes, Mr. Hudson,” the server responded, clearly familiar with Ryan.
I pressed my fingers to my forehead as I listened to his so–called
‘basic‘ orders. Right. Pretty basic indeed–Thinking about the growing
hole in my wallet, I winced internally. ‘This dinner was my treat to thank them for their help, but at this rate, I’d be living on ramen

Just as the server turned to leave, Ryan added casually, “And two bottles of 1982 Bordeaux.”
“cough, cough, cough-” Lemon water burned my throat as I choked in
shock.
Would I need to beg on the streets after this meal?
“Gabby, are you okay?” Ryan leaned toward me, concern flashing
across his face as he reached out to pat my back.
I waved him off, coughing a little more, “I’m fine. Just–went down the
wrong pipe.”
It was then I realized how close we were, his hand hovering just
inches from my shoulder. The small gesture felt oddly intimate.
Shifting my chair slightly, I created some distance. Ryan pulled back
without a word, his expression calm as ever.
I glanced up to find Drake observing us with a mischievous glint in his eyes, like he was cataloging this moment for future gossip.
An awkward silence fell over the room, only broken when the server
returned with the wine.
“Sorry, I’m not much of a drinker,” I said, pouring myself a glass of
orange juice instead.
Ryan and Drake filled their glasses with Bordeaux, and we raised our

“Ms. May, you attended the same university as Ryan and me, right? All
of us in law school, though I think you were a few years behind-”
Drake said.
“Yes, you’re both my seniors,” I replied with a polite smile.
As the conversation flowed, the atmosphere eased, and the two men
started drinking more freely.
“Ryan, you just got out of the hospital. Should you really be drinking so
much?” I asked, a touch of concern creeping into my voice.
“I’m fine. This much amount won’t get me drunk,” Ryan reassured me
with a wave of his hand.
“Let him drink.” Drake said with a laugh, “He’s in a great mood today.“.
I frowned silently, ‘Great mood? What was there to be so happy
about?‘
Dish after dish was brought to the table, each more exquisite than the
last. The lively atmosphere helped me relax, and I began explaining
the details of my situation with Vincent to Drake.
“Ms. May, my advice is to collect evidence of Vincent’s affair with your
sister,” Drake explained seriously. “With that evidence, you’ll have a
strong case for both the divorce and custody. Additionally, it will improve your position for a fair division of property.”

I opened my mouth to say I didn’t care about property, but Ryan
interrupted, “Gabby, there’s no need to give up what’s rightfully yours.
What do you think?”
After some thought, I nodded.
He wasn’t wrong. Why should I walk away empty–handed when
Vincent was the one who betrayed me? Before, I just wanted to end
things quickly, so I hadn’t pushed the property issues. But now things
were different.
“However,” Drake suddenly said, his expression grim, “there’s one
tricky issue-”
