Chapter 53 Ryan’s Interested In A Married Woman?
Strangely, my heart started racing. Even I didn’t understand why I was reacting this way.
Taking a deep breath, I replied:
[Why can’t you pursue her?]
Ryan:
[She’s married.]
I froze, my fingers hovering over the screen. Biting my lip, I finally typed back:
[Never thought Mr. Hudson would be interested in a married woman.
Going after someone’s wife isn’t right–Grandpa would be furious.]
Ryan:
[Don’t worry, I won’t wreck anyone’s marriage. Besides, she’ll be free
soon.]
I scratched my head, unsure how to respond.
The woman Ryan liked had to be Miss Miller, right? But how had she
ended up married? Did she break off her engagement with Ryan and
marry someone else? And now, was he waiting for her divorce?
That must be it–right?

For some reason, seeing Ryan admit he liked someone brought a mix of relief and an odd sense of disappointment.
After a while, I finally replied:
[Well, hope it works out for you.]
Ryan:
[It will.]
Setting my phone down, I patted my cheeks, trying to shake off my thoughts and those strange dreams I kept having.

That night, I tossed and turned in bed.
My hand rested on my stomach, and for a moment, I could feel the baby’s heartbeat.
The decision about keeping this baby weighed heavily on me. The memory of that tiny shadow on the ultrasound kept haunting me. And the thought of never being able to conceive again after an abortion
made the choice even harder.
As I wrestled with my thoughts, exhaustion eventually pulled me into
sleep.
The next few days were a blur as I prepared for the interview. I
reviewed everything I’d learned, over and over, worried I wouldn’t
measure up.

Whenever I had spare time, I checked in with the police about Toby’s case or scanned for any news.
Brandon Davis’s death had thrown everything into chaos. There were
no leads, and each passing day felt like torture.
But despite my anxiety, what else could I do? If even Ryan couldn’t find anything, how could I?
The only silver lining was that Vincent had left me alone for the past
few days, giving me some much–needed peace.
In the blink of an eye, Monday afternoon arrived.
I applied light makeup and picked an understated yet elegant dress,
hoping to strike the right balance of professionalism.
Oracle Attorneys lived up to its reputation as a top–tier law firm. Its
location was prime, and the sleek, towering office building even
outshone Hudson Corp’s.
A receptionist greeted me and led me to the waiting room. She poured
me a glass of water and said politely, “Please wait here, miss. The
interview will begin in ten minutes. I’ll escort you to the conference
room then.”
“Thank you,” I replied, taking a sip of water.
After a few minutes of sitting alone, I wandered toward the doorway
to get a glimpse of the office area.

I spotted several lawyers whose names I recognized–people I’d read
about or seen in the news-
This firm was packed with heavy hitters. ‘Could I really pass this.
interview?‘
Despite my good grades in college, I hadn’t worked in years. The
thought left me feeling unsteady.
As I wrestled with my nerves, a commotion broke out nearby.
The receptionist was blocking the path of a beautiful woman, her
voice apologetic but firm, “I’m sorry, miss, but you can’t go in without
an appointment!”
“I’m here to see Ryan!” the woman snapped, shoving past her, “Ryan,
where are you?”
I blinked, stunned. It was the same woman I’d met outside Ryan’s
house.
