“Why are you asking so many questions? Just give me the container when I ask for it,” the woman said, rolling her eyes and reaching out to
grab it.
“Sorry, I can’t do that,” I said firmly, stepping back. “I’ll give it to him myself. No need for your help.”
She crossed her arms, her gaze flicking back to Ryan’s door, “He’s not home right now. I’ve been knocking forever, and there’s no answer,” Her attention shifted to the container in my hands.
The clear lid revealed the desserts inside, her expression turning smug, “You really think Ryan would eat this basic? If you’re trying to impress him, at least make an effort!”
She let out a mocking laugh, shaking her head, “It’s ridiculous–any random person thinks they can go after Ryan these days. Know your
place!”
Her words made it clear she thought I was chasing after Ryan. The hostility in her tone left little doubt that she had some kind of interest
in him. ‘Maybe she was his girlfriend?‘
But as far as I knew, Ryan didn’t have one,
“I’m not pursuing Ryan.” I said evenly. “I’m just his friend. Whether he eats my desserts or not is none of your business. You’re
overstepping.”

I wasn’t one to back down, especially when someone was being so
rude. If she couldn’t be polite, I didn’t see why I should either.
“How is it not my business?” she snapped, lifting her chin to look
down at me. “I’m–I’m his girlfriend!”
That made me pause. I studied her carefully for a moment before
shrugging, “Oh. Well, that’s disappointing. Poor taste on his part,” I
said calmly and turned to leave.
Clearly, today wasn’t the day to give Ryan the desserts. I’d try again
another time.
But that woman wasn’t done. She grabbed my arm roughly, catching
me off guard, “What’s that supposed to mean?”
The sudden tug caused the container to slip from my hands and hit
the ground, the desserts spilling out.
“What’s wrong with you?” I snapped, yanking my arm free and glaring
at her as I bent to pick up the ruined desserts.
The sight of my carefully made desserts splattered on the ground stung. They’d actually turned out pretty good this time.
“Ryan wouldn’t eat this cheap stuff anyway,” she said haughtily,
stomping her foot. “Save your effort!”
“You ruined my food,” I glanced up at her coldly.
“Fine, I’ll pay for it!” She rolled her eyes, pulling a few bills from her

designer purse and tossing them at my feet like it was some grand
gesture. Without another word, she turned on her heel and strutted off,
her high heels clicking against the pavement.
I watched her retreating figure, lost in thought. ‘Was she really Ryan’s
girlfriend? Her behavior didn’t exactly scream compatibility with someone as composed as him.‘
Then I suddenly remembered that Miss Miller, a member of Bellton’s wealthiest family, had once been engaged to Ryan–could that woman
have been Miss Miller? Doubtful. The Millers might be arrogant, but
someone of that stature wouldn’t behave so pettily–right?
Shaking my head, I went back to my apartment, cleaned up the mess,
and texted Ryan:
[Your girlfriend is pretty, but she’s got quite a temper.]
After a few minutes later, his reply popped up:
[?]
I smirked, typing back:
[I Just met your girlfriend. She was looking for you.]
Ryan’s response was quick:
[I don’t have a girlfriend.]
Reading that, I couldn’t help but smile.

Just as I was about to put my phone down, another message came through:
[Though there is someone I’m interested in pursuing. But I can’t right now.]
My eyes widened. My heart skipped a beat as I stared at the words on
the screen.
