Ryan wore a khaki trench coat over a white shirt. Without his usual
suit, he looked relaxed and casual–but still ridiculously handsome.
It wasn’t until he pulled out his keys and unlocked the door right next
to mine that it clicked.
“What a coincidence, Gabby,” Ryan said with a smile, “Looks like we’re
neighbors?”
I blinked at him, completely stunned, “Wait, why are you living here?”
This apartment complex was nice enough, but it wasn’t exactly the kind of place you’d expect someone like Ryan to live.
“It’s close to the law firm–makes my commute easier,” he said
casually.
“I see,” I replied, nodding.
He wasn’t wrong; This place was just a short walk to Oracle Attorneys. Still, of all the apartments in the area, what were the odds that
Grandpa’s gift would land me right next to Ryan’s?
“Since we’re neighbors, feel free to ask if you need anything,” Ryan said, stepping toward his door. Then he paused and turned back, “Oh, about your divorce from Vincent–want to talk about it now?”
I hesitated. ‘Was this really the right time to bring up something so
serious? I still owed him dinner, anyway.‘

“How about we stick to our Monday dinner plan and go over
everything then?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.

“That works,” he nodded. “I’ll contact a lawyer beforehand, and we can
go over the details together.”
“If Vincent keeps refusing, litigation might be our only option. I can’t
personally take on your case–you get that, right? But don’t worry, I’ll
find you the most perfect attorney.”
His voice was calm, but his words really hit me, “If you’re
recommending someone, they’ve got to be the best. And you’re right-
handling my case directly would be a conflict of interest. I’ll cover all
the legal fees, of course.”
“Legal fees?” He raised an eyebrow, amused. “Don’t be so formal with
me.”
“I insist. If I don’t pay, or I can’t accept your help,” I said firmly.
“Alright, whatever you say,” he said with a shrug, clearly unfazed.
After a moment of hesitation, I asked, “What’s in it for you? why are
you even willing to help me with this?”
“As your fellow alumnus, isn’t it my duty to help when you’re in a tough
spot?” Ryan countered.
I stared at him, speechless. His reasoning–well, it made sense, I
guess.

“Alright then, thanks, senior,” I said, flashing him a wink as I turned toward my door. “Get some rest.”
After getting home, I had dinner and made some desserts.
I made some mango pudding and thought about what I’d said earlier. I
had promised to bring Ryan some homemade desserts. Now that he lived right next door, it was a perfect chance to show a little appreciation.
Though, someone like him must have tried all sorts of fancy food. I hoped he’d like it anyway.
I packed the pudding in a container and stepped outside, but as I raised my hand to knock on his door, I froze.
A stunning blonde woman stood there. She was dressed to impress, wearing a designer dress that screamed money, carrying a high–end handbag, with flawless red lips and piercing blue eyes.
For a moment, I just stared. It wasn’t every day you saw someone like her, “Who are you?” I asked.
“I’m here for Ryan,” she said coolly, tossing her perfectly styled hair over one shoulder. Her eyes flicked to the container in my hands, and she raised a brow, “Are you–his housekeeper?”
Her words left me speechless. I managed an awkward smile and
shook my head, “I’m his friend.”
“Since when does Ryan have female friends?” Her tone and the way

she looked me up and down oozed hostility. Then, eyeing the container again, she smirked, “You made him food? Hand it over take it to him.”

Something about the way she spoke was too familiar, too possessive.
I tilted my head, curiosity getting the better of me, “What’s your relationship with him?”
