Chapter 46 Ryan, Please Help Me Get Divorced
Looking at the shredded papers scattered on the floor, I clenched my fists and said through gritted teeth, “Go ahead and tear them up. If
you tear this one, there’ll be another.”
Vincent stared at me, frowning like he didn’t recognize me anymore,
“Gabrielle, you were never like this before.”
“Really?” I gave him a bitter smile. “People change.” I took a deep
breath, “I once loved you so much that I became as humble as dust,
but I’m not doing that anymore.”
“I’ve told you, I won’t agree to a divorce,” Vincent glared at me, his
voice fierce. “Gabrielle, give it up!”
With that, Vincent stormed out, slamming the door so hard it shook
the walls.
The loud BANG of the door completely blocked out any trace of him. I
hadn’t expected Vincent to be so angry, refusing to sign the divorce
papers no matter what. ‘Wasn’t Claire waiting for him to marry her?‘
But I knew, with Vincent’s resources, he’d find a million ways to stop
the divorce. If he didn’t agree, it would be nearly impossible for me to
get away from him.
Feeling frustrated, I swept the shredded papers into the trash bin.
Ryan’s words suddenly echoed in my mind, “Want a divorce? I’ll help
you.”

I hated relying on others, and I already owed Ryan too that I didn’t know how to repay.
But things were so messed up now that it seemed like only Ryan could help me get divorced…
After thinking about it, I decided to find a chance to invite Ryan out for
dinner–first to thank him, and second to ask for his help with the
divorce.
Right now, the most urgent things on my mind were getting divorced and finding Toby.
I pulled myself together and started browsing job websites.
As expected, all the resumes I’d sent out had sunk without a race—no
responses at all.
I couldn’t even land an interview, let alone find a job.
Although I’d been expecting this, I still stung.
I kept scrolling through the job listings, then went to check if there were any updates on the missing person notice I’d posted earlier.
Online users had been really helpful, sharing my notice far and wide, but, unsurprisingly, there were still no leads on Toby.
I sighed and rubbed my temples, feeling my heartache deepen. However, by evening, I finally received some good news.
The recruiter from Oracle Attorneys called to schedule me an

“Interview at 3 PM next Monday? Yes, that works perfectly, I’ll
definitely be there!” I said, barely holding back excitement.
After hanging up, I looked at the papers and books scattered across my desk and took a deep breath.

Ryan had moved fast–arranging an interview right after getting out of
the hospital. This opportunity meant everything to me!
Even though my chances of getting into Oracle Attorneys were slim,
what if I actually succeeded?
After thinking it over, I sent Ryan a message:
[Thank you for this opportunity. No matter what the outcome is, I’ll
give it my all.]
Ryan replied quickly:
[Just do your best. I believe in your abilities.]
I blinked in surprise. ‘What abilities could a rookie like me have in front of a legal powerhouse like him?‘
I quickly replied:
[I hope I won’t disappoint you. By the way, should I send you my
resume?]

[No need. I already have your resume and showed it to the firm.]
I was confused. ‘How did he have my resume? Did I submit one to
Oracle Attorneys before and just forgot about it?‘
After thinking for a bit, I gathered my courage and messaged him:
[Ryan, when are you free? I’d like to treat you to dinner and talk about
something important.]
