Chapter 35 Please Don’t Divorce Vincent, Okay?
Vincent sat by the hospital bed, Claire throwing herself into his arms,
looking fragile and wronged.
“Vincent, I knew you’d come to see me!” she sobbed, her voice
breaking. “I was so scared–I thought I’d never see you again!”
What a coincidence that Claire was here too, in a nearby room. ‘Wasn’t
she in a car accident? How was she completely unharmed?‘
“I’m glad you’re okay,” Vincent said, gently patting her shoulder. “I’ll
have the doctors check you out.”
“Vincent, my arm hurts so much,” Claire pouted, rolling up her sleeve
to show a scratch.
I couldn’t see it clearly from outside, but that scratch- it looked like it
would gone by evening.
“Vincent, stay with me, please? I’m scared,” Claire cooed, her voice
soft and sweet. “When the accident happened, you were the first
person I thought of.”
Vincent paused, then nodded, “Okay.”
Claire’s face lit up in a smile, and I could hear her giggles from outside
the room.
“Vincent, don’t leave me. I got divorced for you–you’re all I have now.”
Claire clung to him, as if trying to melt into him.

Vincent patted her back, trying to comfort her as she leaned in closer.
From where I stood, it looked like they were kissing.
My ears started ringing, and no matter how hard I tried to stay calm, I
couldn’t stop shaking.
All the confusion I’d felt before evaporated as I watched.
I couldn’t take it anymore–my eyes stung.
I felt my stomach churn, and I rushed to the bathroom to throw up. It
felt like it lasted forever, but eventually, I regained control.
I splashed cold water on my face and stared at my pale reflection in
the mirror.
I had to end this–for good.
This triangle was no longer something I could handle.
I touched my stomach, closed my eyes, and made a decision.
After taking a few deep breaths, I grabbed the fruit and supplements
and went to Ryan’s room.
When I walked in, Vincent’s grandfather Henry was there.
Vincent’s father, Daniel, wasn’t, but surprisingly, his wife Rachel was.
Since Vincent and I hadn’t finalized the divorce, Rachel was still
technically my mother–in–law.

I didn’t spent much time with Rachel before–she was always traveling abroad with Daniel or going on solo trips, so I rarely saw her.
“Grandpa, Mother,” I greeted them with a smile.
“Here to see Ryan?” Henry’s face softened with grandfatherly warmth
when he saw me. “We’re family, you know. Why did you bring so
much?”
“It’s just right,” I said, exchanging a smile with Ryan, who was lying in
the hospital bed.
“I’m getting discharged tomorrow,” Ryan said, eyeing the health
supplements I brought. “Gabrielle, I’m not that weak.”
“A little extra nourishment never hurts,” I said softly, clearing my
throat.
“Gabby, come sit,” Henry said, pulling up a chair and offering me an
apple. “Let’s have a bite and chat as a family.”
“Why are you being so nice to her?” Rachel’s cold voice cut through, and she gave me an unfriendly look. “Isn’t she divorcing Vincent?”
I was surprised Rachel knew about it already–hadn’t she just returned
from abroad?
Her words froze the room’s atmosphere.
“Yes, we’re getting divorced,” I said, breaking the silence.
Henry’s face changed, and suddenly, he took my hand in his, looking at
me with concern, “Gabby, I actually wanted to talk to you about this.”
“Please don’t divorce Vincent, okay?”
