“I’ve already eaten,” Vincent said, his voice colder than usual.

I was a bit shocked. Wasn’t he always the most gentle with Claire?
That distant tone used to be reserved for me.
“Then how about shopping? I want to buy some bags,” Claire
continued, acting cute, as if his coldness hadn’t phased her.
From start to finish, she didn’t even glance at me once. Even though I
was standing right next to Vincent, she treated me like I was invisible.
What surprised me even more was that Vincent rejected her again,
“I’m busy today, and a bit tired.”
Claire lost her composure, finally acknowledging me, “Oh, Gabby,
you’re here too. Sorry, I didn’t see you earlier.”
“Yeah, I didn’t notice you either,” I said with a cold smile, “You two
carry on, I’m leaving.”
“Gabby!” Vincent called after me.
“What brings you two to the police station?” Claire asked, forcing a
smile.
“They caught the shooter,” I answered, giving her a pointed look, “Speaking of which, it’s strange – I don’t even know the shooter, so why would he want to kill me? Who do you think could be behind this?”

As soon as I finished speaking, I saw a flash of panic crossed Claire’s
face.
But she recovered quickly – so quickly that I almost wondered if I’d
imagined it.
“How would I know?” Claire pouted, Looking innocent, “Maybe you’ve offended someone, Gabby. Not to lecture you, but you really should work on your personality.”
“How I am is my business, not yours,” I shot back without missing a beat, “Maybe focus on fixing your own mess instead of criticizing
others.”
With all the scandals about her and Vincent, how her career’s tanking online, and losing fans – yet here she is, talking about candlelight dinners with Vincent? Interesting.
“Gabby, what happened to you? No wonder Vincent wants a divorce.
No man likes a woman covered in thorns,” Claire said, fake concern dripping from her voice.
“Roses have thorns,” I smiled slightly. “And let me remind you – I’m the
one who wants the divorce.”
“You-” Claire looked like she was about to argue further.
“Enough,” Vincent interrupted, his tone final, “Gabby, let me drive you home.”
“No need,” I shot back instantly, “I’ve called a car. I’m leaving – please,

Right on cue, my ride pulled up. I didn’t spare Vincent another glance
as I got in.
“Gabby!” Vincent’s voice called out.
I pretended not to hear and turned to the driver, “Please drive.”
As we pulled away, I faintly heard Vincent and Claire arguing.
“Vincent, what’s wrong with you lately? Aren’t you and Gabby getting divorced? Why are you becoming more attentive to her and colder to
me?”
I couldn’t catch the rest.
I rubbed my temples, trying to shake off the unease creeping in. I had
to stay strong.
Even if Vincent’s attitude toward me had changed, we couldn’t go
back.
Suddenly, my phone chimed. I checked it – it was a message from
Ryan.
[I heard they caught the shooter?]
I quickly replied: [Yes, I just left the police station.]
[Come to the hospital. I have important information about Toby’s disappearance to share with you.]
Reading that message, my heart skipped a beat. I immediately told the driver to change direction and head to the hospital.
Things were starting to make sense. Were we finally getting closer to
finding Toby?
