“Honey, are you sure about this?” Sylvia glanced at me as she drove,
“If I remember correctly, didn’t you really want another baby? Can you
really-”
I cut her off.
“Whether I can handle it or not, I have to,” I wiped away a hot tear
sniffling, “Keeping the baby would only make things harder.”
If I kept the baby, how painful would it be for them to grow up without
a father?
And, after divorcing Vincent, I’d have to face financial issues. I haven’t
worked in years – I’d be lucky to support myself, how could I let a child
suffer with me?
So much has happened lately, and I wasn’t seeing things clearly until now, thinking about the future.
This baby shouldn’t be brought into this.
The thought made my eyes sting more, leaving an empty ache in my
heart.
I loved this baby so much, yet I couldn’t bring them into this world.
I silently said “sorry” over and over in my heart.
“You’re right, ending the pregnancy is the most logical choice,” Sylvia

sighed heavily, “That jerk Vincent doesn’t deserve to have you bear his child! I can’t believe it – he seemed to treat you well, but behind your
back, he was messing around with your sister.”
“I need to schedule the procedure soon. Vincent’s already suspicious about the pregnancy and insisted on taking me to the hospital today. It was a close call,” I said, still feeling uneasy.
“Whatever you decide, I’ve got your back,” Sylvia’s words gave me
strength.
When we reached at the apartment building, Sylvia insisted on
carrying my luggage up, refusing to let me lift a finger.
At the door, I entered in the code. Once inside, I realized the apartment
hadn’t been lived in for a while and needed a deep cleaning.
The apartment was a decent size with three bedrooms – more than
enough space for just me.
Sylvia called a cleaning service, and she worked alongside the
housekeeper, stopping me every time I tried to help.
“You’re pregnant, and your hand isn’t fully healed – take it easy!” she
scolded me.
Sitting on the couch, watching her bustle around, I felt like crying.
After the cleaning was done and the housekeeper left, I gave Sylvia a
thumbs–up for the transformed apartment.

“Sweetie, you’re amazing! Let me treat you to dinner to thank you.”
“You bet – I won’t say turn that down!” Sylvia happily agreed.
We went to a nearby French restaurant.

In the private dining room, while waiting for our food, Sylvia leaned in
and whispered seriously, “I bought you some self–defense tools – watch for the package.”
“Huh?” I was confused.
“Didn’t you tell me someone tried to kill you at the wedding?” Sylvia’s
expression grew serious. “That’s not a small thing, especially since
they haven’t caught the shooter.”
“Be extra careful when you go out. If I were rich, I’d hire ten
bodyguards for you – too bad I can’t afford that,” Sylvia pouted, pulling
me into a hug, “Gabby, your grandma may be gone, but I’m still here.”
I instantly teared up and cried in her arms.
It felt so good knowing I wasn’t alone – I never had been.
“Sweetheart, don’t cry, it breaks my heart,” Sylvia wiped my tears, “My
poor Gabby, you’ve been through so much. We’ll find Toby too, and
then we’ll all take care of each other.”
After letting it all out, we finally started eating and chatting when the
food arrived.
“By the way, you said it was Vincent’s Uncle Ryan who saved you
during the shooting?” Sylvia suddenly set her silverware down, as if
remembering something.
“Yeah,” I nodded. “I don’t get why he did it, though.”
“Could it be that he likes you?” Sylvia smiled knowingly, “I bet that’s it!”
