Chapter 16 Are You With Uncle Ryan?
“None of your business.” I put my phone away and stepped back. “Ex–husband, you’re being way too controlling.”
Maybe calling him “ex–husband” stung his pride because Vincent grabbed my wrist furiously, “Gabrielle, we’re not divorced yet!”
“We will be soon.” I pulled my wrist away, a cool smile on my lips.
“You don’t get to decide about the divorce!” Vincent’s face darkened. “Until I agree, you’re still Mrs. Hudson.”
“Vincent, you can’t trap me.” I kept my tone steady, “You can restrain my body, but you can’t control my heart.”
Ryan’s handsome face flashed through my mind. ‘If Vincent won’t agree to divorce, maybe I could ask Ryan for help,‘ I thought.
An amazing lawyer like Ryan would surely be able to help me win this case!
Though I worried that maybe Ryan was just been joking earlier. He might not actually help. After all, Vincent was his real nephew.
“Gabby, you were messaging Uncle Ryan just now, weren’t you?” Vincent suddenly accused, his voice sharp with certainty. “Are you two together? Is that why you’re so confident about the divorce? Because Uncle Ryan’s got your back?” he laughed bitterly.
“Think what you want.” I tried to walk away, not wanting to get into another argument.
At this point, even explaining seemed pointless.
“Stop!” Vincent grabbed my wrist, pulling me back.
When he yanked my left wrist, it tugged at my injured arm, I winced in pain.
I frowned, and was about to snap at him when a long, elegant hand appeared.
Vincent’s grip was blocked, and a tall man stepped in front of me, pulling me behind him protectively.
I stared in shock at the man who had appeared so suddenly.
It was Ryan again.
‘Wasn’t he supposed to be in the hospital? What was he doing here?‘
“Vincent, Gabrielle is injured. As her husband, you should be looking after her, not making her injuries worse!” Ryan’s voice was sharp, and his eyes were hard.
“This is between me and Gabby. Stay out of it!” Vincent’s glare was full of venom.
The tension was thick.
As far as I knew, Vincent had always been a little wary of Ryan. Ryan had a prominent position in the Hudson family and was well–respected in both legal and business circles.
“I don’t want to get involved in your personal affairs, but if your bad press is going to hurt Hudson

“What do you talking about?” Vincent’s expression shifted.

“Check the trending topics. See what mess you’ve caused.” Ryan glanced at me. “I’ll take you to the
hospital.”
I nodded numbly, still trying to process what just happened.
Only we were in Ryan’s car, I finally found my voice, “Why did you come?”
It couldn’t just be ‘passing by‘ again, right?
“I was going to attend the funeral, but the doctors wouldn’t discharge me, so I was delayed. When I got
to the church, the funeral was over. But I saw Vincent harassing you, so I stepped in.” Ryan spoke casually, as if it were no big deal.
“If they don’t discharge you, why come out here?” I looked at him worried. “Are you okay?”
After all, he had been shot. How could he leave the hospital so soon?
“I’m fine, I’ll head back to the hospital soon,” Ryan said gently. “I just wanted to make sure you were alright.”
“What?” I froze. My mind raced, hardly believing my ears.
Did I hear that right? If I understood correctly, did Ryan come all this way–for me?
My heart was beating faster, but he just smiled and said, “It’s nothing.”
“Actually, I wanted to tell you something important. There’s been some progress in Toby’s disappearance investigation.”
“Have they found Toby?” My heart skipped a beat, my voice rising in excitement.
