She hadn’t given the answer yet, but I had a sinking feeling I knew what was coming.
Early last month, Vincent told me he had to go abroad for work. I trusted him so much that I packed his suitcase, making sure everything was just right. How stupid I was back then.
I glanced at my watch, “I’m not interested in your gossip. The funeral’s about to start.”
“Are you scared?” Claire sneered, her face twisted with mockery. “What’s the rush? I’m not done. Let me tell you, last month, Vincent went abroad to see me.” she continued, flipping her hair back with a smug look, “We spent the whole night together.”
“Oh.” I said, forcing myself to stay calm, acting like I couldn’t care less. “How interesting!”
“What?” Claire blinked, clearly thrown off by my response.
“Weren’t you still married then?” I smirked. “You, a married woman, slept with another woman’s husband–are you proud of that? If you’re so proud of yourself, maybe I should give you an award? Maybe we should post it online, let all your fans see-”
“Shut up!” Claire screamed, her composure cracking completely, “How did I never noticed before? You’ve turned into such a sharp–tongued witch!”
I couldn’t help but smirk.
I used to live in Claire’s shadow–she was the flower in the spotlight, while I was just the leaves around her, making her look better.
After marriage, I gave everything to Vincent, putting him first in every way, even losing myself in the
process.
But that Gabrielle? She is dead now.
“Claire, you’d better stay out of my way,” I stepped forward, backing her against the wall. “You want my husband? Take him. I don’t want a cheater–he’s all yours. But you’re the one who got grandmother killed,” I added coldly. “And I’ll never forget that! We’ll settle that score, slowly.”
“You–you-” Claire stumbled back, her finger shaking as she pointed at me, looking shocked.
“Push me too far and I’ll push back. Don’t think I’ll always let you walk all over me,” I said, laughing darkly as I gave her cheek a mocking pat.
“I didn’t kill grandma!” She shook her head furiously. “She already had pancreatic cancer. The doctors said there was nothing they could do-”
“If you hadn’t said what you did when grandmother called that day, she wouldn’t have gotten so upset.” I shot back, fury bubbling up. “She was your grandmother too, Claire! Don’t you feel any guilt at all?”
Josephine left with regrets, and I couldn’t let that slide.
“She was my real grandmother, but she treated an outsider like you so well!” Claire’s frustration broke through, her voice rising. “I just don’t get it!”
That one word hit me like a slap. I froze, catching her slip–up. “What did you just say? Who’s the

Suddenly, the blood in my veins felt like ice.
I thought back to something my father said before he died.

He told me I wasn’t his daughter, that he’d never had a daughter like me.
I remembered how different the family always treated me growing up. I never understood–we were supposed to be siblings, but why did they always treat us so differently?
The more I thought about it, the more uneasy I became. I felt like some huge secret was about to be revealed.
‘Could it be that I wasn’t really their biological child after all?‘
As I got lost in that thought, Claire still hadn’t answered me. Suddenly, she collapsed to the ground, tears welling up in her eyes, “Gabby, why are you being so aggressive?”
I stood there, stunned, not sure what act she was putting on now. And before I could react, someone rushed over.
It was Vincent.
Without a word, he charged at me, and shoved me away!
