His voice echoed in my ear–once so magnetic, now it sent a chill straight down my spine.
“You don’t agree?” I almost laughed in anger. “Vincent, are you serious?”
“I’m the one asking for divorce–shouldn’t you be happy? I know you love Claire, you can’t forget her! So, I’m stepping aside. After the divorce, you can marry her anytime, whenever you want.”
I don’t want to play this three–person game. I was ready to bow out.
“Who told you I love her?” Vincent gritted out. “Gabrielle, you’ve been so paranoid lately. Do you really not trust your husband this much?”
This was getting absurd.
He was the one who always chose Claire over me. He was the one who protected Claire and let bullets fly at me.
And now he has the nerve to accuse me of not trusting him?
“Vincent, let’s end this peacefully,” I shoved him away, hard. “For Toby’s sake. You don’t want Toby to see his parents fighting over a divorce, do you?”
Vincent froze at the mention of Toby.
“For Toby’s sake, we shouldn’t get divorced,” he said, his voice filled with mixed emotions. “Toby loves both of us. If we divorce, it’ll be hard on him. Besides, we still haven’t found Toby.”
“Vincent, you’re unbelievable,” I laughed bitterly. “When I loved you, you didn’t appreciate it. Now that I want a divorce, you refuse.”
Only now do I realize I never really understood him.
I can’t figure him out. Logically, if he loves Claire, why shouldn’t he want a divorce and marry her?
After hearing my words, Vincent stayed silent for a long time.
I didn’t wait for him to speak. I turned and walked away.
As I rounded the corner, I suddenly bumped into a familiar face.
It was Claire.
She was dressed in a way that looked more fitting for a party than a funeral.
I’ll admit she’s beautiful, and people like her, but right now, I couldn’t stand her.
Not just because of Vincent, but because of my grandmother too.
I gave her a cold look and tried to walk past her.
We used to be sisters, but now, we had nothing left to say.
“Wait,” Claire called out. “Gabby, were you just talking to Vincent about divorce?”
“Mm–hmm,” I replied flatly. “Congratulations, you’ll finally get the man you love.”

“Gabby” Claire’s face stiffened, looking upset. “I think there’s been some misunderstanding. “I never meant to steal Vincent from you. Vincent wanting to divorce you probably isn’t because of me-”
“Cut the act,” I shot back, exposing her fake sympathy. “That day at the wedding, when grandma called Vincent, I heard what you said. You’re some sister, huh? Wanting to have a baby with my husband?”
As soon as the words left my mouth, Claire’s face turned pale.
“One more thing-” I smirked, watching her composure slip. “Just so we’re clear–I’m the one divorcing Vincent. I’m the one who doesn’t want him. Not the other way around. Oh, and he just told me he doesn’t want a divorce. Maybe he doesn’t love you as much as you think.”
Claire was absolutely livid now.
“Gabrielle, you think you’ve won?” she sneered, finally dropping the act. Her expression twisted with rage, completely unlike her usual calm self.
“I’ve got something to tell you too! Want to hear it?” she leaned in closer, her bright red lips a stark contrast to her furious expression. “Vincent went abroad early last month, you know about that, right? Want to know what he did?” she said, her expression practically glowing with triumph.
I froze, my fists clenched tight, and I gritted my teeth.
